Boys’ Skung Through the united effort of all concerned, the CHS ski team advanced from last year’s poor showing to a successful ’74 season. The key to this year’s team was the experience of David Bloniarz, Andy Choquette, Bob Dillon, Bill Ferrieter, and Joe Woishnis. Good ski conditions enabled the 1974 boys’ ski team to practice regularly behind the school and at Mt. Tom. Tri-captains, David Bloniarz, Bob Dillon and Bill Ferrieter held the team together against the tough opposition of the Holyoke and Longmeadow teams. Coach Lucier, commenting on his close-knit team, expressed pleasure at their performance this season. “The best yet.”’ Mr. Rene Lucier | Leaning into the turn, Joe Woishnis gains speed to complete a successful run. 2 Keeping low to decrease wind resistance, Bill Nolan goes through a practice run. 3 Showman, Ryan Ricarby poses for the camera. 4 Eyeing his next gate, Dave Bloniarz is in complete — 34,5 Ski Team, front row: Rob Carey, Brian Dooley, Bill Nolan, Bob Dillon. back row: David Wal- control lace. Girls’ Skiing Dedication and determination led the girls’ ski team to a victorious sea- son. Coaches Mrs. Lucier and Rob Cary encouraged the racers while tri- captains Mary Nadeau, Sue Tansey and Martha Sullivan shared their skill and helped the team develop its potential. Striving to maintain their undefeated season, the racers prac- ticed twice a week behind the school. On Monday afternoons at Mt. Tom the ski squad raced in competition with five other schools. At the close of the season the racers finished sec- ond in their division. “Getting better every year.”’ Mrs. Lucier Clare Leary, Martha Sullivan, Martha Barry, Linda O’Donnell, Sue Tansey, Mary Nadeau, Jean Condon, Cindy Olson, Barbara Condon, Roberta Lepak, and Carol Pronovost. 1 Angulating, Martha Sullivan demonstrates her racing talent. 2 Skating to increase speed, Mary Nadeau races through a maze of gates. 3 Maintaining quick turns, Cindy Olson carves her way through the course.
