All language students prepared research projects which aided in developing an awareness of foreign customs and cultures. German and Spanish students conducted skits in an effort to gain a better understanding of their respective languages. Eight Spanish students brought back first hand information from Spain, which they were able to use this year in their classes. A rare treat was served to the German students when they took a trip to the Fort Restaurant. French students, for the first time, participated in the American Association of Teachers of Frenc h exam. The test was administered according to the students’ level of advancement. A French instructor from A.I.C., Miss Deitz, volunteered her services and visited French classes during the month of January. Her supplementary instructions aided students in their pronunciation and vocabulary. On an international level, a trip to France and one to Germany was open to all French and German students. 36 3 1 Ach humbug, remarks Chris Ott, alias Scrooge. 2 French classes are treated to special lectures by volunteer, Miss Deitz. 3 Senior, Linda Owens, concentrates on her Spanish lesson. 4 Soph, Gary Mastrioni, practices Spanish grammar skills. 5 Writing homework on the blackboard enables French students to catch spelling errors. 37 Lab assistants enrich Science with patience and talent 38 To better acquaint students with laboratory techniques, the Science Department expanded by offering a Laboratory Assistant Course. For the first time the science teachers graded on a pass fail basis, for a full credit. After receiving general instruction in laboratory procedure the assistants chose a teacher and helped with class experiments and in the resource center. Biology students implemented their study of living organisms with various activities such as incubation of chickens, dissection of frogs and worms, and the observation of the dissection of a stillborn lamb. An evironmental study observing plants and pond life, followed by independent study was conducted by the AP Biology Class. Included this year with the quarter courses, Astronomy, Pathology and Computer Science, was the new offering Science and Society. A year’s course of studies could be selected from these four courses or in combination with Environmental Science, a semester course. Physics classes set up a telescope in order to watch the progress of the Kohoutek Comet. This year’s Science Program attempted progress by broadening the course possibilities for student selection. cence viecae NE i 4 ca f a : Ip Aw Veer hie “a 4B) % te ae) + P ob : ‘ rk ‘ - My ‘f ' $e eh FAet t Sts : % 3 e } y i ei 4s ‘ ws a 1 A.P. New teachers also helped give the department a different look. Mrs. Alexander taught Humanities classes about the cultures of America and Russia through visitors, lecturers and plays. Students researched Russian food and customs and then had a Russian Christmas party to which they invited guests. Tom Crourst, a student from California, came to speak to classes on his experiences of hitchhiking across the U.S. while Ted Piekos spoke on Australia where he lives and works. This year, as in the past, English students continued to choose their own course of study. A change in the curriculum was the separation of Poetry and Drama courses which were previously offered as one. “Effective oral Communication and Debate” was a new course offered this year to Juniors and Seniors. It was taught by Sr. Lorraine Henry and concentrated on organizing and researching a topic well and being able to present the ideas clearly. With all of its changes, this year proved to be an exciting one for the English Department. Circumstances forced students to learn a more conservative method of driving. “For example,” stated Mr. William Thomas, instructor of Drivers’ Ed, “it has been proven that driving at 50 m.p.h. instead of 60 m.p.h. saves gas and as a result saves the student money.” In addition to the standard safe driving procedures, gas rationing was also emphasized. Upon completing the required thirty hours of classroom instruction, students reinforced their classroom knowledge with six hours of observation and six hours of driving. When a minimum of fifteen students had completed the course, Mr. Thomas called in a State Inspector who administered the road tests and issued the new licenses. 1 Hours of classroom instruction provide a basis for ‘‘on the road training” ... 2 enabling students to receive their licenses ... 3 for their solo drive. 4 A sampling of the many problems that will face new drivers. 5 “But I have to get to work!’’, exclaims Glenn Ackerly. New “‘notes’’ resound for musicians 2 Approaching music from an academic standpoint proved to be a stimulus which kindled student interest. Music appreciation, taught by Mr. Dante Pilegi, was a great success during its first year of existance at Cathedral. As the course unfolded, students delved into many facets of music and used their new-found knowledge in many classroom and extra-curricular activities. The small group of twenty-one met each day during sixth period in the band room where Mr. Pilegi introduced the mechanics involved in musical expression. The course was an elective which was open to all students. Although the atmosphere was relaxed, an academic attitude was maintained, and tests and quizzes were included as class requirements. Grades were determined on a pass fail basis. Students took an active part in the course, and student interaction was instrumental in its success. 1 Viewing the musical score to Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is Charles McCarthy. 2 Di- versity of musical interests is stressed in the Music Appreciation course. 3 This student’s notebook holds a special kind of “‘notes’’. 4 Senior Brian Sheedy tries his hand at ‘‘con- ducting” the class. 5 Students attempt to in- terpret the new material which they’ve just copied off the board. 6 A variety of selections await the ambitious musician. 43 Calculator multiplies math program | parry of the Solution — youre part Electronics entered the math department this year in the form of a programmable calculator which enabled students to compute with great speed and accuracy. Some teachers familiarized students with the metric system through the use of problems involving metric measurements, worksheets, and related materials. Students also investigated areas not normally covered in the classroom, such as topology and non-Euclidean geometry, with the help of slides, filmstrips, and outside research. Thirty-five students participated in the Math Convention held at the Civic Center in November by displaying projects and acting as student aides. Cathedral students also exhibited projects at the annual Math Fair, which was held at AIC in May. The National Prize Exam once again challenged the abilities of Cathedral mathematicians, while four juniors and three seniors received Certificates of Merit for their performance in the State Prize Exam. PROTO O OOo . oe eeenns - Stor eees Businesswomen Cathedral’s Business department continued to be ruled by young businesswomen despite being in the midst of a male dominated world. The men have the upper hand in numbers only in Accounting, while the women have an overwhelming edge in the secretarial arts. A large number of business students plan for their futures and obtain jobs through the Career Resource Center which is directed by Sr. Loretto Thomas. The resource center is open to all students for career planning and has a file of jobs presently available. 46 1 Sr. Elizabeth Quinn gives the final check to Elaine Bierowka and Barbara Burke’s work. 2 Service to the school is rendered by Denise Tetreault as she mimeographs bulletins. 3 Senior Joie Therrian helps with the absentee list. 4 Arduously working at the key punch is Rosemary Regan. 5 Desk calculator helps Christina Veto finish a business report. 6 In- come Tax forms will come easy to Terry Duval after practicing in class. 7 Practicing typing, Deb Geoffrian works to perfect the skill. 47 Theology focuses on the living God, community, man 1 Theology courses this year focused on the sharing of ideas through dialogue, group discussion, and individual class instruction. Freshmen explored methods and levels of communication, attempted to know themselves better, and to come to a deeper understanding of the different concepts of God. Participation in small group liturgies helped sophomores respond to God’s presence in community worship. Juniors electing EKastern and Western Mysticism compared Hinduism and Buddism with Christianity. The course was, highlighted by avisit from a Buddist monk, a 62 Cathedral graduate. The students in Christian Community classes explored theological interpretations of Vatican II and other church doctrine. Senior course, Man in a Religionless Society, compared current values with traditional Christian thought. Christian Marriage looked at various aspects of relationships from a physical, cultural, and theological point of view. Theology Through Literature and Film, investigated the philosophical considerations of authors and film directors on morality and the modern mentality. This year’s theology department was alive with new and young members who met weekly to share insights and opinions and to discuss “The Theology of Liberation.”’ 1 Philosophy scholar Tim O’Brien, makes his point perfectly clear. 2 Portraying Christ, Jim Dowd is confronted by the mob consisting of freshmen Kathleen Mogilka, Kathleen Mc- Gurn, and Francis Gingras. 3 Senior Maggie Dufresne ponders the theological concepts of Father Riendeau. 4 A cast of junior friends cel- ebrate with Mary Skala. 5 Listening intently are seniors Al Barker, Donna Potto, Mary Hebert, and Karen Blackwood. 6 Sophomores worship together in a small group liturgy. 49 Active ingredients for good cooking Concerning themselves not only with food preparation but also with nutrition, serving, purchasing and table etiquette, the students of Sister Madeline’s food classes found that the recipe for a good cook includes patience, ambition, confidence and ingenuity. They also found that cooking, was much more than merely combining ingredients but rather an art. During the course of the year the major undertakings included a Christmas project, preparation of a full course meal, and Practical Arts Night, in which they displayed their newly acquired skills. Despite the growing interest among males, the female ratio remained 4:1. 1 With infinite patience, Greg Boyer prepares a gourmet’s delight. 2 Concocting a culinary masterpiece, an aspiring ““Bobby”’ Crocker carefully checks his recipe. 3 Teamwork is the essential ingredient for Tom Dromey’s and Mike Burke’s success. 4 Kathy O’Connor beats the batter as Liz Carberry eggs her on. 50 Sewing pattern remains consistent Under the new supervision of St. Barbara Gumpright, the sewing department carried on the same program as last year. Clothing I seamstresses completed three projects; a pair of pants or a skirt, an article with a collar and sleeves, and finally a project of their own choice. Not only did they learn how to work with patterns, put in zippers, and finish seams, but they also became familiar with the different types of fabrics. Those who completed their first year of sewing could enroll in Tailoring. Tailoring students were required to finish an underlined dress, a coat, and a gown. a If time permitted, they began designing their own creations. Participation in Practical Arts Night, either modeling or serving refreshments, was mandatory for seamstresses in both programs. 3 1 A look of satisfaction creeps over Maureen Sullivan’s face as she successfully threads her machine. 2 Pattern picking is the hardest job. 3 Laying down the foundation keeps one on pins and needles. 51 Gym classes welcome new coaches with enthusiasm The old and the new joined hands this year to expand Cathedral’s Physical Education program. Sr. Beverly Rochford and Mrs. Jean Joseph teamed up with Coach John Michalick, Mr. Richard Discenza and Mr. William Wise, to offer the freshmen and sophomores a diversified and interesting program. A course in self-defense was something new for the girls who also, when the snow finally arrived, were able to enjoy the purchase of five toboggans. Gymnastics was a first for the boys who learned various floor exercises and the use of gymnastic equipment. The courses that were repeated for another year were girls’ basketball, tennis and skating plus boys’ football, wrestling and skating. The only coed course offered was volleyball where teams competed in around-robin tournament. The main objective of the program was to give the students a desire to keep themselves in shape. lod ‘ 7 An aspiring student practices an arabesque on the beam. 2 Waiting for the signal is Andy O’Shea. 3 A student combines speed with his dribbling skills. 4 Decisions, decisions ... the ropes or the rings. 5 Coach Michalek looks on, watching for the pin. 6 Concentrating on her style is Terry Hart. 7 Sr. Beverly Rochford briefs a group of girls on the techniques of the unevens. 8 Now that nobody is looking, Mary McNerney gets ready to swing. 53 Industrial Arts An eye-catcher again this year, Industrial Arts offered a wide and varied program. For students planning an art-related career, a two year course consisting of Basic Tech and Engineering Drawing provided the needed experience to give future artists a helping hand in grasping perspective, proportion, and form. To give students a better idea of basic technical skills and to help them become more aware of the problems of construction and design, a three year course consisting of Mechanical Drawing I, II, and Fundamentals of Engineering were studied. These courses proved to be the medium for encouraging interest in such fields as architecture and machine tool design. Using such basic equipment as compasses and lead pencils, the Industrial Arts students added their talents to Practical Arts Night. Being able to display their projects gave them a sense of accomplishment. 54 I Richard Malmborg diligently prepares for his next design. 2 A smile creeps across Dan Fen- no’s face as he varifies the dimensions. 3 An exhausted Basic Tech student stops for a brief snooze. 4 Scrutinizing his work is Dennis Nadeau. 5 Oblivious to the world around him, Germaine Huot adds the finishing touch to his work. 6 Adjusting the position of his T-square is Chris Paul. 7 A Mechanical Drawing stu- dent double checks his’ design’s measurements. American History courses featured a plan in which teachers organized the sequence of events, assignments, and ideas into a coordinated schedule. Once during each cycle classes met together for large group instruction which included panel discussions, lectures, and film presentations. Students taking Urban Affairs extended their concept of “the city” with the aid of guest speakers, field trips, and newspaper study. Under a release-time system they were allowed to leave Cathedral to research different aspects of city commerce, culture, and government. Senior government students centered their studies on foreign policy, political parties, and the application of the U.S. Constitution. Once again the class organized the Model Senate. Their junior counterparts participated in a mock Constitutional Convention depicting the different view points that formed the basis of our present government. Teachers implemented anew concept in education by introducing a community involvement program in which students participated in local government by working with the mayoral staff and the Urban League. Eight students participated in the Framingham State College Essay Contest and Conference. They submitted compositions dealing with major political movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. Sixteen members of the World Problems class attended the Model United Nations Congress held at Assumption College. Through the use of new ideas and new teaching techniques, the social studies department achieved its goal of making history a journey of discovery for students. This press, the only one of its kind in the area assists the students with such printing jobs as etching and lithographing and other engraving procedures. A new stipulation in the Art Department’s format is the process of continuing onto Art II only by the recommendation of the interviews with the Art I and Art II teachers. A portfolio prepared by the student must also be approved. Numerous projects were displayed around the school thanks to the creative endeavors of the Art students. Among the projects were mosaics, water colors, ceramics, and paintings. 7 1 Frosh Tim Gauthier asks ‘‘What next?’’ 2 Senior Denise Bissonnette dabs in oils. 3 Along with classmates, Donna Valentini paints a still life arrangement. 4 Finishing touches are put on Christmas decorations for the school halls. 5 Clay models are painted by Anne Biotta before the second firing. 6 With an artistic touch Marianne Sypek molds an earthenware vessel. 7 Artisan Mary Curran pounds the air holes out of her wet clay. ss a a oe een Ve Wise amp = — Ot ATHLETICS Football Rookie coach Jack Michalak’s crew struggled through a winless season. The young mentor brought a new group of assistants with him, as Rich Discenza, Jim Woodward, and Tom Whiston helped coach. Key injuries struck the Panthers. Players on the casualty list included halfback Pat Healy, the two-way standout, and Roland Brooks, who was ailing for most of the fall, with a leg injury. Soccer New faces added to the soccer squad’s complexion last year, as many underclassmen were called on to fill in vacated positions caused by the graduation of many of last year’s state champs. Coach Lee Kenworthy recruited a total of 16 new players to occupy eight open spots in the starting lineup. Strong leadership was shown by stable veteran co-captains Ken Murphy and Ron Starzyk, who anchored the offense and defense respectively. While completing an undefeated independent schedule, the team’s participation in league play was not as successful. Defeating Commerce and Putnam easily, the kickers gained two ties with league champ Tech, and were defeated twice, once in overtime, by Classical. During the New England Prep School Association Soccer Clinic, the Panthers competed in a scrimage verses Windsor Locks, the Conn. state runnerup the previous year. The team’s youth showed through as their season concluded during the Ist round of the WM tournament. Ludlow, a team Cathedral had yet to beat in all of the years of the sport, denied the footmen again, stymieing them to the tune of 4-1. Redemption was at hand, however, in the new annual varsity-alumni battle. After a scoreless tie in the first half, Murphy, an All-NE selection, led the ’73 squad to a 4-1 win. In addition to new male participants, four girl managers came onto the scene. 65 Cross Country Rounding off a great winning season, the CHS Harriers surpassed the state mark of 72 consecutive dual meet wins. Under the leadership of Coach Paul Whitlock and co-captains Tom Wolff and Mark Ianello, the team became a dedicated, unified squad. By taking the Columbus Day and Mt. Herman invitationals, the team showed their great talent and power. Key runners were Bill Gelinas, Cris Barret, and Craig Plante. During the WM Championship, the team achieved a goal sought after for many years; sweeping not only the Varsity and JV meets, but also the Freshmen Championship a week earlier. Seven days later, the Panters achieved their dynasty by winning the State Championship held at Franklin Park in Boston. State Championship runners were Mark Ianello, Tom Wolff, Steve Ashe, Matt Wolff, John Coville, Bill Paterwic, Ted McCarthy and Marty Wright. 66 Scoreboard CHS 17 Enfield 44 ee Holyoke 32 22 East Longmeadow 39 20 Ware 41 19 Agawam 42 23 Southwick 36 17 Longmeadow 46 21 Technical - 3s 19 Minnechaug 43 Wilbraham- 18 Monson 45 15 Enfield 42 26 Classical 30 Mount Herman Inv. With outstanding depth, witnessed in many sports this year, the squad was able to perform well enough during the regular season to compile a 14-6 record, sufficient to qualify them for the post-season tournament. During the regular season, the squad participated in the New England Catholic Invitational Tourney. Two key victories were over Tech, and the Berkshire powerhouse Pittsfield. Outstanding players on the squad included Jimmy Connery and John Martin, whose injury caused losses of key games. Coaches Lynn and Steve Sager made it known at the first meeting that to make the team you would have to have a willi ngness to work. This willingness to work was the most important factor in determining the team’s success. Once the team was chosen, girls began long hours of repeated practice. Each piece of equipment necessitated a different type of exercise. The work was not in vain as four girls qualified to compete in the State Individual’s Meet. Beth Mineo and Lori Trangheses qualified as all-around girls. Chris Greenia qualified for the vault and Lisa Condren qualified for the beam. The whole team participated in the W Mass. Subsequently the team went into a tailspin losing to anumber of less powerful teams. Upon the return of Wright and Ellis, the Panthers upset league leading West Springfield, and went on toclinch fourth place. The key to this year’s team was the experience of David Bloniarz, Andy Choquette, Bob Dillon, Bill Ferrieter, and Joe Woishnis. Good ski conditions enabled the 1974 boys’ ski team to practice regularly behind the school and at Mt. Tom. Tri-captains, David Bloniarz, Bob Dillon and Bill Ferrieter held the team together against the tough opposition of the Holyoke and Longmeadow teams. Vis. Bowling Under the direction of senior Tom Nolan, the CHS bowling team had an interesting season. During the first match of inter-city play, CHS was badly defeated by Putnam eight to zero. However, during the second match they reversed their standing defeating Putnam by the same score. Advancing in league standing, CHS’s tied for first place in the second match with their arch-rival Classical, who had dominated the bowling league for many years. This tie called for a clarifying pin-fall count. Classical outnumbered CHS’s pinfall and on this count won the match. Sportsmanship was emphasized as team members played as a cohesive unit rather than as individuals. “Of all the sports around, bowling comes closest to the ideal ofsportsmanship.”’ Fr. O’Hear a hae ! Ted McCarthy set a school record in the 880 with a 1:59.6 during the WM Championships. Backed by a complete team effort, the team went on to win their 12th Consecutive City Championship. Worthy of special mention were Lou Gatti, Bernie Bouvier, Joe Dauplaise, Mark Ianello, Tom Wolff, Jim Williams, John Coville and Tom Rothfus. Despite losing only two meets the Panthers did not have what was considered a good year, placing fifth in Western Mass. As Coach Casserly said, “This is Cathedral’s best team ever.” Headed by Seniors Maury and Mike Cabral and Junior John Vivier, the team displayed vitality and agility. Under the new architecture program, building designs and house plans were drawn up by members of the T-Square Club. Participation in Practical Arts Night was the final goal for the club’s many projects. Artists dabbled in unexplored areas of art which were not covered during regular class. Performing various services for the school, the Art Service Club advertised major athletic and academic events. Members of the Staging and Lighting crew were responsible for the lighting and sound systems in the auditorium. They proved an asset in all school productions, including the Minstrel Show. 1 Equestrians meet to plan the week’s ride. 2 Art service club member, Elizabeth O’- Donoghue, gathers material for an upcoming event. 3 Dave Lynch prepares his project for Practical Arts Night. 4 Radioman Tom Adams contacts an overseas station. 5 Thought pro- voking moves challenge chessmen. 6 As one of the few female members of the T-Square, Therese Livesque works for equal recognition. 1a m FACULTY eB Fr. My educational experience was such a pleasant one, I would like to afford the same opportunity to those with whom I work ... Sr. Patricia Feeley: I want: to be part of the Church’s mission to teach; and to help young people develop their potential to become real Christians and better citizens. Mr. Richard Askin: I am an educator because I honestly feel that I could not be as happy as I am now doing anything else, other than teaching. Miss Jean Bagurskas: I am an educator because I feel there is a reason and a purpose to educa- tion. It lies not so much in the learning of facts and figures but that through these things we come to an awareness of self. The role of the educator is, then, to help the student find himself through the experience of learning and by so doing enable him to be able to experience life in its fullest sense. Mr. Daniel Balicki: So that my gains and losses might rub off until actual experience for them occurs! Mr. Rich- ard Barry: To stimulate and participate in the growth of someone else is intriguing. To watch that growth take place is exciting. I gain much from my students, hopefully they gain as much or more from me. Mr. Jean Beauregard: In short: Not to teach everything I know about a given subject but to also learn from stu- dents. To try to instill in each individual a concept of self worth. What better place to continue your learning process than a classroom?? To help students find themselves and become a free person in society. Sr. Rose Carmel Wallace: With Robert Frost “I am not so much an educator as an awakener’”’ Con- vinced as I am that no one can be truly free until he is educated — awakened — I have dedicated to my life to life’s highest role: bringing truth that sets minds free. Christ commissioned his apostles “‘to go forth and teach’. He told all of us to learn of him. With all of the vocations on earth at his disposal, He was ever the teacher. Humility I seek to follow and to bring His light in freedom-giving truth, to others. 115 Sr. Mary Sr. Catherine Mrs. Frances Jensen Social Studies Ann Hemenway Sr. Margaret Art Mrs. Helen Harris - Library Aide Miss Joan Durkin Office Sr. Kathleen Frank Library Aide Sr. Lorraine Henry Math Sr. Theresa L juin — Language Mr Joseph Dussel Math Goulet Theology Mr. Richard Discenza Phys. Danny Query Danny Quirk October 5, 1956 — October 12, 1956 — November 14, 1972 December 30, 1971 196 To everything there is aseason, to meet, live, ... and love UNDERCLASS MEN Juniors ... attitude Working to implement their theme, ‘Attitude’, the class of ’75 strove for high ideals. Several committees were formed and countless hours were spent formulating ideas and then instituting them. Many students worked with the mentally retarded and youths from the study home, which increased their sense of responsibility and gave them much personal satisfaction. Class financial obligations were met by having a car wash and araffle, helping to keep the price of the prom down. Cooperation and an immeasurable amount of class spirit were the vital factors in making this year a great success. In summing up, Sr. Richard Francis, the faculty advisor, said, “T loved working with these enthusiastic youths. The great number of kids who cared enough to spend time after school generated joy through many a life.” 200 Juniors Paul Abraham Nora Adams Glenn Akerly Kathy Albano Deborah Allen Paul Anderson Tasha Anderson Nancy Anderstrom Laurie Angeli Donna Angelini Donna Ascioti Eileen Ashe Keith Ashley Christine Asselin George Atkins John Bal Mark Balicki Helen Barkman Christina Barlow Patricia Barrett Kathleen Barry Lisa Barry Michael Barszewski Patricia Bartello Karen Beaudet Patricia Beaudry Denise Beaulieu Gerard Bechard Stacie Beck Michele Beckman Mary Anne Begley Antonio Belanger Donald Belisle Lucie Beliveau Brian Bellefeuille Laura Belliveau Cheryl Bennett Nanette Bergeron Denise Bergevin Alan Berrouard Lori Berube Judy Bilodeau Anne Binney David Blokland Scott Blouin Lynne Boilard Susan Boisvert Maria Bonavita Juniors 201 James Bonzagni James Boss Lorraine Boucher John Boudreau Laurent Boudreau Richard Boudreau Raymond Bourbeau Julie Bourke Jeanne Bouthiller Jeffrey Bouyea Shelia Bowler Jeannine Braska Gary Brennan Thomas Brigada Theresa Brodeur Thomas Brodeur James Brown Shawn Brown Debra Bruton Susan Buckley James Buffum Debra Bulewich Patricia Burke John Burnham Eleanor Burns Eileen Butler Jean Butler Catherine Cabral Mary Caffrey Christina Calabrese Debra Calabrese Helen Callaghan Anita Camerota Elizabeth Carberry Alfonse Cardaropoli Helen Carey John Carleton Francis Carney Katherine Caron Mary Carroll Carol Carter Thomas Casartello Thomas Cecchetelli Anne Center Ralph Chabot Mariette Chapdelaine Susan Chapdelaine Frances Chechile Margaret Chechile Debra Chistolini Cynthia Chlastawa Michael Chmura Robert Chmura Andrew Choquette Carol Cignoli Michael Cipriani 202 Juniors Thomas Cipriani Henrietta Cira Paul Ciurleo John Claffey Jeffery Clark William Clement Mark Close Daniel Coffey Anne Collins Christine Collins Robert Conley Cynthia Connell Sarah Connolly Nancy Connors Robert Contois Carolyn Conway Kevin Conway Eileen Cook Judith Corcoran Susan Corridon Guy Coulombe Jeffrey Cox Michael Coyne Laureen Crane David Cross Robert Cross Maryann Croteau Russell Croteau Russell G. One of their goals this year was to once again lead the school in the magazine drive, with the united effort of all the sophomore students. Sr. Madeline Tiberii, class advisor, considered that her role was just to advise, and that the “Green Tornadoes” would do their own work in promoting communication between sophomore teachers and students. The “class of 76” had several dances and fund raising projects for the under-privileged that promoted unity within the school and community. The class theme of ““Enlightenment’’, begun last year, was carried out a second year through the sharing of spirit and understanding among students and faculty. Choosing ““The Quest” as the theme to represent the journey through their first year, the frosh commenced this theme with their first mass in September. Homeroom teachers met late in September to discuss ideas for frosh activities for the upcoming year. The first assembly was conducted to give an explanation of after school clubs so multi-talented freshmen were given a chance to learn more about their favorite hobbies. During the ’73 Magazine Drive, the eagles added their hopes, support, and sales talent to that of the other classes to make Cathedral number one. Freshman dances held throughout the year proved to be one factor that helped to get the fledgling Eagles out of their shells and meet their fellow classmates. Each moment ... traveling our own road, realizing our own ideals and achievements, and seeking wisdom has been important in shaping our world. We have brought happiness into the lives of others by being a friend. Together we have solved problems alone at times building towards tomorrow. Each individual has added a special ingredient a new dimension of color to our life, creating a whole person. Days were filled with the laughter and anger of familiar precious voices. 253 We have changed through the seasons in each new day, in school, in others, in ourselves, and we’ll continue life with a spirit of happiness and hope. If we can sit down some day and honestly say to ourselves that we have experienced all we have lived, but more important, that we have helped others to experience all we have lived ... then does forgetting really matter? 255 Acknowledgments This yearbook exists. because of the combined efforts of a hardworking, dedicated, sincere, and great group of peo- ple. Finally, and most of all, our hearts reach out to thank our faithful and very patient advisors, Sister Catherine Leary, Sister Nancy Sparks, and Mr. Martin Pion. They helped us to turn out a publication, and in so doing, turn out better people. Again we thank all those who have shared and encoun- tered, and it is to them, that we dedicate this book.
