Underclass hoopsters rejuvenate girls basketball squad It was a building year for the CHS girls’ basketball team in its second year of existence. Of the twenty-one players, fifteen were frosh and sophs. Senior co-captains Vicki Crimmins and Kathy Hibbard, the only returning varsity starters, provided leadership and experience needed in molding this young, spirited group into a respectable team. After ten games they stood 4-6 with valuable experience gained by the rookies. This year s team proved, through hard work and determination, that girls basketball has a bright future at CHS. Girls’ basketball team, front row: Susan Potkai, Nancy Shea, Patricia Ryan, Barbara Brennan, Kath- leen Hibbard, Barbara Kelly, Grace Picard; second row: Vicki Crimmins, Rose Tougas, Terry Hoff- man, Tara Mahan, Jeanne Bourke, Mary Crum, Terry Kennedy; third row: Coach Donna Crum, Man- ager Terry Sullivan, Carol Martilli, Marie Pratt, Rose Jakubaszek, Patricia Riley, Abbey Peck, Darlene Gill, Janet Paro, JV Manager Paula Tarozzi, JV Coach Sue Duquette. 1 Attentively defending her zone, junior Grace Picard eyes her opponent. 2 Driving toward the basket Kathy Hibbard shoots for two points. 93

CHS bowlers strike successful year The CHS bowling team, harboring a full squad of dedicated bowlers and only in its second year of existence, took a step upward in its climb to come atop the ladder of success. This year s team, under Fr. O' Hear’s direction, with the experience of captain Steve Agin and the help of Barry Gaudette, Tom Johnson, Joe Leonezyk, Bill Shewchuk, and Tom Nolan, won 24 points in match play, and gained 11,000 pin falls to make a strong third place finish in their tough bowling division, which was much better than the showing of last year s novice team. Active involvement by its players, as well as the growing interest aroused at Cathedral, provided the team with the drive they needed to prove themselves a better squad. 1 After his release, Dave Payne's face depicts a hopeful win. 2 Following through, Tom John- son uses wrist action for a successful knock- down. 3 Captain Steve Agin displays style and determination during tourney play Bowling team: first row: Tom Johnson, Steve Agin, Dave Payne, Thaddeus Witasezek, Mike Stasiow- ski; second row; Barry Gaudette, Tom Nolan, Paul Wilson, Mike Plasse, Bill Witasezek 92
