New coach leads girl gymnasts in satisfactory season. In a year of shaping and rebuilding the girls gymnastic team placed third in their league and second in Western Mass. Senior co-captains Linda Griffin and June Hussey led the young team of two juniors and eighteen sophs and frosh. Unified group effort enabled the girls to improve noticeably through the year, according to confident new coach Lynne Lamarche, a Cathedral graduate. Because of increasing interest in joining the girls gymnastic team, Steve Sager of UMass became assistant coach. The fourth annual gymnastic show, presented in April, was dedicated to former coach Leo Leger in honor of his contributions. 1 Front flip brings Mary Boss over the high bars. 2 Grace and form compliment Beth Mi- neo’s floor exercise. 3 Concentration is written on Deb Scuderi’s face as she works out on the unevens. 4 Co-captain Linda Griffin performs an arabesque on the beam. 5O

Once again Cathedral's varsity golf team captured the city crown with a record of 11-2-1. The putting Panthers rolled over every opponent, with the exception of strong teams from Chicopee, Agawam, and Monument Mountain. The team, consisting mostly of seasoned vets, placed third in Western Mass. team competition, while rookie Ed Nugent qualified for state individual honors. For the fourth consecutive year Cathedral golfers have brought the city title and golfing respect to the halls of CHS. 1 With a concentrated effort, Tom White blasts out of a sand trap. 2 During match play, Wes Sparks tees off. 3 The team’s only state champi- onship qualifier, Ed Nugent, makes his ap- proach shot. 4 A very consistent player, Keith Albano, works his way out of the rough. 5 Cap- tain Jim Torrenzano lifts the ball to the green
