Speech team gains recognitionas successful year ends Desiring to improve their speaking ability and poise, many CHS students participated in this year s speech festival. In January, the annual Diocesan Speech Festival was held at Cathedral. Over two hundred students from nine schools engaged in this event. Members of the CHS speech team participated in several different categories ranging from Radio-Newscasting to Children’s Literature. Other categories included Dramatic Monologue, Original Oration, Prose, Oratorical Interpretation and Humorous Monologue. The afternoon was rounded off with Group Discussion and Extemporaneous Speaking. The CHS speech team won eighteen gold medals and six silver medals. Tracy Jenkins and Elizabeth McCarthy qualified for the National Speech Festival in Chicago.

Seniors pantomime Italian Opera Several students presented Giuseppe Verdi s ‘Il Trovatore”’ for the annual senior opera. The Italian tragedy starred Lee Bennett in the role of Leonora, with Bob Clark as Manrico and Mike Buckley as Count di Luna. The opera was under the direction of Fr. Richard Riendeau. Students spent several months perfecting facial movements and expressions for the pantomime.
