NHS relief project benefits children Under the leadership of Debbie Carleton, its first woman president, the National Honor Society provided an opportunity for the entire student body to show their will to be involved. The Society collected non-prescription medicine, clothing and blankets for Vietnamese children and the underprivileged in Appalachia. The students responded in the true spirit of giving and many packages were sent. The smooth running of many school functions including College Night and Freshman Orientation was made possible by the cooperation of NHS members. Underclassmen were invited to the Society s induction ceremonies to provide an introduction for prospective members. 1 Leadership rings in the voice of Mary Lou Darsigny. 2 Preparing banners for induction required patience as exemplified by Lorna Clement. 3 Two year members of the Honor Society reflect qualities of character, scholar- ship, leadership and service. 4 Integrity of an NHS member is mirrored on the face of Don Cameron

Mechanical Drawing catches interest Again, as in past years, the Industrial Arts course has demonstrated that it is both an increasingly practical and interesting area of study. The enrollment is at capacity with 225 students participating. The two year Graphic-Arts Course consisting of Basic Tech and Engineering Drawing proves invaluable to individuals planning a career related to art, fashion design, or interior decorating. The three-year Engineering course is specifically geared to give students amore thorough knowledge and to better prepare them for fields of study in advanced-level engineering and drawing. The three-year program includes Mechanical One and Two and Fundamentals of Engineering. The highlight of the year was the Arts Festival, held during the second week in May. This event provided an excellent diversion from usual class work and gave students an opportunity to express some of their more unusual talents. 1 Pausing from his drawing junior Keith Woods builds castles in the air. 2 Taking time out to inspect his work, Sean Doyle gives it a nod of approval. 3 Deeply involved in his work, Sean Abad carefully marks his place with his T- square. 4 All mechanical drawing skills come down to these basic tools of the trade. 49
