Cheerleaders encourage enthusiasm Performing at football, basketball, and soccer games, rallies and other school functions, the CHS cheerleaders encouraged school spirit. Promotion of student interest and enthusiasm was aided by their display of posters announcing upcoming games. With two weekly practices all year round, they perfected their skills in execution and originality of cheers. An innovation was the covering and decorating 1 2 of a metal hoop with paper through which soccer and basketball players burst into their games with determination. Bearing school colors, the varsity cheerleaders marched in various local parades. This year's varsity squad was reinforced by the introduction of aJV team. They cheered at home junior varsity football and basketball games, and accompanied the soccer team to the Massachusetts finals in Boston and the New England semi finals in Maine. Cheering at frosh basketball games, the freshman cheerleaders urged their team to victory. 3 1 Cheerleader Janet Smith concentrates on field action. 2 After the scoring of a touchdown, Rina Brunelle tosses her ahikewa with glee. 3 Cheered on by Kathy Murren, Kim Formwalt and Debbie Murren, Bob Hawley bursts through the hoop. 4 “Go Team Go,” shouts se- nior Patty Carney as she executes a Russian spread jump. 100
