Inexperience plagues From the outset of the season the CHS basketball tam was faced with the problem of a shortage of experienced players and a merciless schedule, thought by many to be the toughest in Western Mass. Led by forward Jim Whalen and backcourt ace Mike Julian, the hoopsters raised a few eyebrows with their determined play. Coach Dan Balicki came up with junior Bob O’Herron to fill the all-important pivot spot. Bob responded game after game with a dauntless effort that was most evident in the upset over Drury. Pulling down 29 rebounds, O’Herron completely outclassed the front court of the Berkshire power. Confronted with the unenviable task of rebuilding, Coach Balicki altered his line-up considerabley, hoping to come up with a combination that would click in coming years. The team’s relentless spirit kept alive the winning desire during this rebuilding season. 56
