Gridsters rise from league cellar to second place Displaying spirit and aggressiveness the Panthers compiled a 5-2 record with a tough 12-0 loss to Holyoke and an upsetting 46-0 defeat by Tech. The disheartened Panthers were forced to play without five of their defensive regulars in the latter game. Intent on redeeming themselves the squad practiced two hard weeks for their Thanksgiving Day contest against Westfield only to have it cancelled by astorm. Many honors were merited by individual Panther players. Jim Whalen directed the offense, tossing fine passes to All-City wide receiver Dave Lapan, while crucial blocking was provided by All-Western Mass guard Marc Lucier. Mike Dunlea received All-AA Conference honors as defensive halfback, while linebacker Steve Dimodica, defensive end Joe Hickson, and tackle John Hammond were honored by selection to the All-Western Mass second team.
