Novel Extravaganza subs for traditional Musical Replacing the yearly musical, a Musical Extravaganza which filled the auditorium on two consecutive nights, was staged by members of the band, dancers, vocalists, and majorettes. Serge Prokofiev's production, ‘Peter and the Wof,” choreographed by Janis Mandrus, highlighted the evening. The band furnished a variety of concert music which ranged from classical to contemporary. A casual air pervaded the second half of the program, held in the cafeteria where refreshments were served. Majorettes commanded the audience's attention with special routines Various numbers by other vocalists, dancers, and musicians complemented the atmosphere of the night.

CHS speech team launches year in winning style Speech festival activities began in November, when, after eight hard weeks of constant practice, Cathedral's 30 candidates entered Diocesan competition. When eliminations were announced, 100 per cent of the CHS team had made it through these preliminaries. The thirty finalists, in early February, competed in Diocesan finals. Gold medals were awarded to 10, while 14 received silver. The top eight Diocesan medalists participated in National competition in Pittsburgh. Of these eight, three were from Cathedral. Cathedral sent 28 candidates to the tough state contest. Of these 28, four came home with medals.
