Boys capture first in VWMass; Girl gymnasts gain league title By completing an undefeated season, Cathedral girl gymnasts, coached by Mr. Leo Leger, gained the league championship. The team placed third in the Western Mass. meet in which Cindy Scuderi took all-around honors with a total of 29.43. Shari Bordeau finished third. Though senior Shirley LeClerc was sidelined at the end of the season because of an injury, she played a major role in gaining the league crown. In their third season of competition, Mr. Bud Ostrander’s boy gymnasts finished second in the Western Mass. High School Conference, losing only once to South Hadley. In the other meet with South Hadley, Cathedral’s score of 107.90 was the highest ever achieved by a boys’ team in Western Mass. Key man Andy Lynch qualified for state individual championship competition. 1 Angelo Scuderi vaults the horse. 2 At practice, Shirley LeClerc performs a balance beam routine. 3 During the annual gymnastic show the boys’ team forms a pyramid with Angelo Scuderi doing a handstand on the parallel bars. 4 With the grace of a ballerina, Cynthia Scuderi perfects floor exer- cises. 5 Gymnast Dan Roulier practices on the parallel bars. 6 Suspended in mid-air, Cynthia Scuderi shows skill in executing the butterfly as she competes in floor exercises.
