C. , one would expect to hear merely the lecturing of the Eng- lish instructors or to see students diligently taking exams. However, this isn't the case. At Cathedral, all are accustomed to seeing displays of architectural drawings in the drafting room and hearing the staccato of typewriter keys or lively discussions concerning the Viet-Nam crisis. The electives offered to all students include courses in typing, drafting, democracy, business law, electronics and bookkeeping. Their purpose is to provide students with a necessary background for future vocational work. Typing, business law and bookkeeping help prepare for a career in accounting or business, while elec- tronics and drafting provide the fundamentals for a career in engineering. 68 Students work diligently to improve their typing speed and accuracy

Students Kctomc Prvficicht in Zfhcir ,Native Language Understanding themes, discussing literary works, and studying classical and modern drama are only some of the activities which comprise Cathedral's four year program of English. The freshman year is based upon a general survey of fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry. The sophomore program covers Amer- ican literature while the junior year involves a study in depth of English literature. Sen- iors round 'out their high school English by studying world literature beginning with the ancient plays of Sophocles and finishing with modern free verse of the twentieth century. The four-year program also provides a full course in correct, effective writing and public speaking. MV.
