Text from Pages 1 - 160 of the 1964 volume:

1964 CRUSADER Cathedral High School Belleville, Illinois WHEREAS, the Brothers of Mary have devoted their time unselfishly to the students of Cathedral High School for the past fifty-nine years, and WHEREAS, they have labored to communicate knowledge to us and to further our education, and WHEREAS, they have tried to instill in us the Catholic ideals of life and its principles, and WHEREAS, they have strained to counsel and guide us in our activities in order that we may leave Cathedral and enter into the world as proud Crusaders carrying with us the ever-present spirit of Cathedral BE IT RESOLVED, that in the year of Our Lord, nineteen-hundred and sixty- four, we the students of Cathedral High School, do hereby dedi¬ cate this yearbook to the Brothers of Mary, in thanksgiving for the knowledge and guidance that they have transmitted to us through their complete resignation of time and trouble for our benefit. Respectfully Dedicated to POPE JOHN XXIII June 3, 1963 SERVANT OF THE SERVANTS OF GOD” May they rest Two Great Men of our Time PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY November 22, 1963 ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU; BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY.” in Peace’’ TO YOUR EXCELLENCY, MOST REVEREND ALBERT R. ZUROWESTE, BISHOP OF BELLEVILLE: As the last graduating class of Cathedral High School, we salute you for your unrelenting interest in the youth of our diocese. We thank you for having made possible our education in Catholic Schools and for further¬ ing the cause with the construction of AlthoffHigh School. We hope with years our education will help us to develop fully, and that, years hence, The Church, Our Country, and Our Fellow- man may point to us and proudly say, ’There go Cathedral men.” t MONSIGNOR GREGORY HOLTGRAVE PRESIDENT CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL A Message Brother Francis Haug S.M. My dear graduates, There is glory in being the last graduating class of Cathedral High School, and insofar as you individually have measured up to everything implied in your saying, ' This is Cath¬ edral,” there is individual glory for you. The saying will now change, but what the name, Cathedral,” has stood for in your minds should not change. That which is good at Cathedral High School, let it endure in AlthofT Catholic High School. Attach your loyalties to it. That which is good in your living, let it endure in life. And what is not good, let it die in death. Together we have come through four years, and together, each in his own way, we end an era. There would be little point in my detailing—as I could, you well understand — your failures to live up to the full measure of glory as true Crusaders. Rather, at this time of ending, let us together begin the future by holding fast to the core of our Christian formation at Cathedral High School. And that core is this, quite simply: Christ is our Redeemer and our Model. We go to Him through Mary. The family of Cathedral High School has been formed in the tender womb of the Blessed Mother. God, Who knows the nature of His children, chose to be born of the Woman, so that we are now her sons. It has been observed that you who regard her with sonlike confidence have a solidity and a frankness that grapple you to her Divine Son. May you ever be loyal to your Marian sonship: may you be other Christs. Sincerely in the Virgin, Brother Francis Haug, S.M. Brother Thomas Egolf S.M. In every respect these are our greatest days, the days we will cherish and remember with affection always. All of these memorable days are filled with the learning of factual knowledge and knowledge of life as well. Together we have come a long way, we have learned how to surmount our goals and to work together as a unit, we Ve learned to lose as well as to win. In this year’s Crusader we’ve tried to catch glances of the stu¬ dents who make up Cathedral. You will see us in the classroom, engaging in many varied activities, and on the sports scene as well as in line to receive our diploma. As we present our 1964 Crusader to you, we hope you will agree with us - these are truly OUR BEST AND GREATEST DAYS. Calendar Memories Aug. 21. Aug. 26. Aug. 27. Sept. 3. Sept. 7. Sept. 14. Sept. 18.
