I-sp nd ii!! DW? W ,K-, M.,w-A- ' H , ---' ,wa 33 iii! HI! 1' X ill! f. Q4--1 JJ FRIE DSHIP The four years of life at Cathedral have been our formative years. We have learned much through study and experience. However, as Seniors we shall take with us for more than facts and memories. The friendship of our fellow students, our teachers and associates which we have molded during these high school days will be our constant companion through life. As we are separated by time and distance, the cavalcade of faces and events will fade into the realm of nostalgia. Though years and miles apart, our bond of friendship will be strengthened by the supernatural union which ioins us all. Neither time nor distance shall obsure the memory of our truest friend. He followed us from boyhood to manhood. With us when we first entered Cathedral and when we bid our school farewall, He encouraged us when we won and comforted us when we lost. His love for us is incomparable. It is truly said of Him, Greater love than this has no man. I962 CRUSADER CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL BELLEVILLE, tumors Ji tx 3-er 'Sli' MONSIGNOR GREGORY HOLTGRAVE PRESIDENT CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL The tasks of Cathedral's president are numerous and varied. This year, as in the past, Monsignor Holtgrave has, in conjunction with the faculty, striven to preserve the high standards of academic excellence. With our increased enrollment, his position has assumed new and greater responsibilities. The students of Cathedral High School offer their appreciation and grat- itude to this pious and learned man who has afforded them the great priviledge of a Catholic education. The spiritual and moral foundations which have been molded during our adolescent years will serve us well as we face the challen- ges of this changing world. -40,1 f 1 my 1 , E J' K X ' Q f . 4 .. riff' r , N , ' ,fy-'11 ', 1-1-QQgp'fi..fuy K if Hrhw' -Q , ,, xx 5 5 . rw . Dear Graduates: At the end of high school, perhaps more than at any other time, surely for the maiority of graduates, an individual is faced with a number of important commitments. While some have made these commitments already and others will postpone them for a while, most will commit themselves in the normal process of everyday living to a rather set and inflexible system of values. We designate these commitments as character and describe a man as industrious or pure or honest or religious. From your first day at Cathedral, the ultimate aim of the faculty has been to ready you for the commitments to life that each man must make. This aim explains much of what you students would refer to as the good things of school life, as well as some of the rough things. The test of the intellectual worth of a school is whether the students graduate with cultivated intellectsy the test of the moral worth of a school is whether the students become religious men. The ideal school will integrate these two worths, as we attempt to do at Cathedral. Through long weeks and months we have tried to discipline your intellectsp we have provided curricula and methods designed to develop your mental powers. But, more important, for four years, we have planned everything about school life-our activities, our guidance, our friendly student-teacher relations, in short, our living together-to bring each of you to the threshold of ultimate commitments, the commitment to truth, the com- mitment to your fellow man, the commitment ta your God. And we have done all of this under the inspiration of one motto: Through the Mother to the Son. You go into a world that is not a family, a world that needs a Mother in order to find the Son. We feel confident that in the commitments you arrive ot, you will bring your Marian sonship to bear upon a world desperate for the kind of youths we think you are. LA GUAGE Along with the study of English comes the study of foreign languages which allow us to enrich our intellectual life through the study of the cultures of other countries. To aid us in this study Cathedral has employed the modern aids of the tape recorder and television. It is our hope that these programs have succeeded in enlarging the literary horizons of the students. lf' 351:46 s 'Is - X -sy, ' ,., ..,.. . -v' ' 10,189- Brothar Tondre employes tape recorders i ue- A mastery of the English language is a necessity for a successful career and a full life. The growing intellectualism in the world to- day makes a large vocabulary and a mastery of the techniques of English a must for mean- ingful communication. The reading and writing programs now firmly established at Cathedral lead to this mastery. Our intellectual background has also been enriched by the study of literary classics. In our modern world, an understanding of the work- ings of men and their po- litical machines is essential for an intelligent citizen and a diligent Christian. The history courses bring to us the wisdom of another age and the courses in American problems a nd sociology give us a rela- tionship between the work- ings and problems of mod- ern society a n d th e Christian ideal. Cathedral has given her students, through the social studies courses, an insight to the workings of the world and the rich heritage that be- longs to them. f Y .X - Akmw -.,,,w.-qfrm, -. .M--,mf W, W -A 4 0 I , + ,.. -- v 4 I a 5 ff' 3 'Y Mm 1 5-iw Sill ,Q Nbr W. s. Only through Mary, the mediatrix of all graces, can we find the strength to overcome the temptations and problems which beset us in our daily lives. Cathedral's Sodality's aim is to have every stu- dent always implore the spiritual help of the Blessed Virgin. In this manner all will show their gratitude to the God-man who died on Golgotha. This annual event is held each year in order to introduce the mothers to the faculty and goes far towards the fine parent-teacher relationship that we have always had in the past years.
