MSGRN. MUICLLICR The graduates of '43 extend sincere appre- ciation to Monsignor Joseph M. Mueller, Pastor ol' Uathedral Parish, Msgr. Mueller is a man of prayer, principle, character and kindness. Throughout four years of study, fun, and mis- ehieviousiiess, we reineniber now and will never forget what il friend we have in hiln. Through thick and thin, trouble and the usual tran- quillity of the school day, Msgr. Mueller stood hy us. The majority of' the seniors will go to the Uncle Sa1n's armed forces. Some to the Ariny, some to the Navy, Marines, others to the Air Vorps. But wherever they may be, if at a camp in sunny Florida or in a foxhole at flll2lIl2ll'21llEll, they will always 1'0lllPlllll0l' how close he brought us to God. BRO. URBAN FIAICICGIC. S.M.,Ph.D. For two years it has been our distinct pleasure to have been under the supervision of Brother Urban Fleege, S.M.,Ph.D. Duringthese years many changes have been made through his incessant zeal to make C.H.S. the institu- tion that will give its students the best educa- tion possible. Last year, mechanical drawing was introduced for the first time. This year, trigononletry, biology, remedial reading, shop eourses, and aeronautics were offered to the students. Also, this year, with Lt. John H. Starke as drilhnaster, a Victory Corps was or- ganized, giving all students the fundamental loot inoveinents of the Arnly. ln these two years, strict discipline was en- forced. We did not like it, hut realize now the great amount of good Brother Urban has ac- coinplished. Faculty BRO. RAYMOND VVITTE Calliedral High has been conducted by the Brothers of Mary for the past thirty-eight years. During' our four years, we consider ourselves f01'll111H,tC in having been un- der the supervision of these zealous men. As f1'0SllIllCl1 and sophomores under the direction of Brother NVilfred Moran, S.M., Ph.D., we prepared ourselves to become upperelassnien. During the lust two years, under the guidance of Broth- er Urban Fleege, SM.. Ph.D., stern discipline was our lot. VVe didn 't like it. But now, at Fi11is of our four- XC111' stay, our eyes are opened and we realize what a price- less training is ours. It is a training by men for men. They laid the foundationg the future is ours. ' -L if ' .--' 1, Class History 1940 In 1939 we began our high school caree1's under the Principal, Brother Wilfrid Moran, and our class moderators, Brother Eugene Janson and Brother Joseph Merle. The class Prefeets were Irwin Reeb of Frosh A and James Wuller of Frosh B. The new type of schooling had us puzzled in the beginning, but we grasped the idea soon enough and started our drive toward the top. Both classes were represented on the Honor Roll and on the football, basketball, baseball, boxing, elocution, and intramural rosters. After completing' our annual retreat ull- der Reverend John Leies, we were accepted into the Sodality of the Immaculate Concep- tion, one of the outstanding spiritual events in our four years of high school. . 1942 Our Junior year found us combined as one class, with Brother Michael Brangan as our moderator and Brother Urban Fleege, the new principal. At first there was a slight bit of friction between what had formerly been two rival classes, but under the lead- ership of Jerry Poniske, Prefect, and Broth- er Michael, we soon learned to work to- grether. We were well represented on the Honor Roll and in extra-curricular activities, with members of the class winning letters in every major sport. The debate squad of that year was composed almost entirely of Juniors. During the year, we attended vocational talks by men prominent in their respective fields, and on December 5, 6 and 7 took part in the annual retreat, conducted by Rev- erend Valentine Braun. 1941 ' - As Sophomores, in classes II-A and II-B, under the able guidance of Brother Michael Brangan and Brother William Lehan, re- spectively, we did quite well for ourselves. Dennis Griffin and Jerry Poniske were--Pre- fects of theirf respective classes, and han- dled their jobs quite capably, as is evidenced by the fact that we grossed a combined total of five spirit banners, or -about oneihalf of the number awarded that year. Both classes were well represented on the Honor Roll, and various students from each class also participated in such activities as football, basketball, baseball, boxing, orag tory, elocuti-on and debating. Fourl Sopho-' mores won boxing titles and' two others Won the oratory and elocution contests. 1943 Our final year at C.H.S. began on Sep- tember 7th with Brother Raymond Wittee as Senior moderator. We immediately took over the leadership of the school and be- gan, the works which will mark us down as one of the outstanding graduating. classes. The Senior class ran the school .Sodality very capably with Jerry Poniske as Prefect. The annual retreat was held on October 5, 6 and 7, and was preached by Reverend Maerke. Eight of the nine spirit banner drives were won by the Seniors, seven of them consecutively, a history-making episode. Several students were accepted in the V-5 and V-12 programs and Eve Seniors left in February for college. The pleasant memories of our High School days at Cathedral shall ever be with us.
