n the Fall of 1959, 530 Students arrived not at the Converse address .a,J'f f ff 1' ' X f but at the new Griffin High School as on Washington Street. I I ff Q!!- 1 The dedication of Griffin High School is an occasion of rejoicing and giving thanks on the part of its students as well as of many others. In addition the dedication has a special meaning for the students alone. lt calls for their contribution to their new school at this most suitable time and on this fitting occasion. Their best gift is their manly acceptance of responsibility, individual and collective, for the success of Griffin High School. Many contributed much to make possible this dedication of Griffin High School. Bishop Griffin holds first place. he had the courage to found the high school for Catholic boys of Springfield and the vision and foresight to prepare for the best location of the new high school which fittingly bears his name. The Viatorians, the Fathers and the Brothers, rank close beside him. Their competence and devotion made his hopes and plans real and effective. The contribution ofthe Catholic people with their priests is deserving of equal place and praise. Moved by their conviction ofthe worth and need of Catholic education they made generously and heartily the sacrifice that brought this new and representative school into being. What is the contribution of the students to be? A good school needs good students as well as good teachers and adequate quarters and facilities. The best efforts ofthe students, present and future, in studies, school activities, conduct and example will be the finest contribution they can make to the success of Griffin High School. The dedication is their opportunity. With cordial blessing, William A. O'Connor Bishop of Springfield in Illinois A new school is dedicated. William A. O'Connor Bishop of Springfield in Illinois
