Best school record to date, 8 out of9 wins. Fr. Wm. Harris In July, Father William Harris was named as the fifth principal of Cathedral Boys' High School. Father Shiels was named as Dean of Studies. Father Hopkins be- came Treasurer of the school, and Brother Drolet took over as the Dean of Discipline, replacing Father John Toolan. Brother Drolet continued his teaching and extra-curricular duties. The school also had a Spiritual Direc- tor for the first time in the person of Father Loughran. This year saw the appearance of the Querbes Chapter of the Na- tional Honor Society under the direction of Frs.Nolan and Shiels. City championships in the three major sports were brought home in this school year. The American Business Men's Club honored the football team at a dinner at which the fearured speaker was Don Jaurot, coach of Missouri Univer- sity. The Knights of Columbus also honored the team at a ban- quet with Johnny Lujack as the speaker. The basketball team also had its share of banquets and hon- ors after reaching the State re- gionals in their division. Of the 82 graduates of the class of 1950, three entered the Viatori- ans: Don Wehnert, Don Fitzim- rnons and Tom Langenfeld. All three were eventually ordained priests, and Father Langenfeld became the first American ever to become Superior General of the Clerics of St. Viator, a post he held until August, 1984. They lost by I to S.H.S. Feted by the Knights of Columbus with Notre Dame quarterback Bob The faculty for the 1950-51 ses- sion increased by eight new members. Father William Anson became the new Dean of Studies, and Brother Leo Ryan took over as Treasurer of the school. For many years the living quar- ters of the Viatorians had been very inadequate and, thanks to Bishop O'Connor. a new resi- dence on North Fifth Street was found. Remodeling began and continued through most of the school year. In June it was ready. The football team posted a 7-l season, and several players re- ceived places on all-conference teams. Williams the speaker. Paul Reynolds made All-State. Afar cryfrom Uncle Toms Cabin. One of the highlights of the year was a Career Conference or- ganized by Brother Ryan and fea- Fr.
