Cathedral-Griffin Gold 81 Silver jubilee Anniversary Sunday, September 18, 1983 The anniversary year celebra- tion officially began with an out- door mass concelebrated by Mon- signor Paul Sheridan, who had become administrator of the Springfield Diocese following the untimely death of Bishop Joseph A. McNicholasg the Very Rev- erend Kenneth Morris, Provincial of the Chicago Province, Clerics of St. Viatorg Griffin Principal Father Robert Erickson, C.S.V., and former principals Fathers Edward Heitjan and Wayne Dupuis. The afternoon mass attracted former students and faculty from up to 2000 miles away. In a brief program following the mass, Don- ald Schlosser, '53, read a procla- mation from Governor James R. Thompson identifying the day as CathedralfGriffin High School Jubilee Day in Illinois. Patrick Sheehan, '70, read a similar proclamation issued by Mayor Michael Houston, '62,. The Springfield Munic- ipal Band entertained outside the gYm- Although sweltering weather C9505 held down attendance, the opening events, planned by Hank Petrilli, '43, demonstrated that the jubilee would be a series of class activities.
