Fr. Chas. Dahlby Mrs. Kathleen Hoffman U... f iil T ' A -if 4 W7 t--ian m N: 2 4 Y... The Grwin Band, expanded 10 include girlsfrom Ursuline and Sacred Heart, continues iishne tradition. This last school year saw very few changes in the faculty. Father Charles Dahlby, the Diocesan Di- rector of Vocations, came to teach one class in religion but was appointed to a pastorate before the year ended. Mrs. Kathy Hoff- man came to teach math and two former teachers returned, Father Thomas von Behren, who re- placed Father Egan in the Pas- toral Ministry office, and Mr. Gene Felchner who returned as P.E. instructor and coach. Father Egan was in his second year as Athletic Director and faced the resignation of Mr. Cooper as well as having to deal with Griffinis exclusion from the Capitol Con- ference. One program ofthe school that continued to grow and thrive once again was the band. Under the direction of Mr. Ron Wojcicki, a feeder band program was begun in many of the Catholic grade schools in the city. Mr. Wojcicki and a full-time as- sistant spend most of each school day visiting these schools in rota- tion for private lessons. Each year the grade school students come together for a concert at Griffin, and they have played to standing- room-only crowds. Students from Sacred Heart and Ursuline come to Griffin each day for band prac- tice in the first period. The senior band continues to perform at school athletic events and adds much color to the football season with their fine half-time shows. A major fund raising drive was launched for the benefit of the three Catholic high schools shortly before the appointment of a new Bishop of the Springfield Diocese, Bishop Daniel Ryan, former auxiliary bishop of the Jo- liet diocese. As the drive nears its successful completion, the Catho- lics of Springfield once again have demonstrated their concern for the welfare of the three schools. The administrators spent a good deal of their time in fund raising efforts with several very successful projects: the second walk-a-thon, a S100 per ticket brunch and drawing worth 510,000 as a top prize, and the 25th annual mostaccioli dinner. Nearly Sl00,000 was raised.
