Brother Vince Holubowicz arrived to teach re- ligion and to become moderator of the yearbook. Mr Gene Felchner returned to the faculty as P.E. teacher and coach. With the administration out of their hair, Mr. McFarland and Mr. Albus connected the West of- fices into a very fine Pastoral and Counseling Center. A comprehen- sive testing program for all stu- dents was reintroducedg hence- forth the entire student body would take an annual nationally standardized achievement test. Fr Kass and Fr. Egan set up the of- fice of Pastoral Ministry and in- troduced a series of daily Masses for all students who wished to participate. Under Mr. McFar- land's direction Peer Counseling became a popular course. Partici- pants in this course eventually went on to counsel students of both Griffin and the Catholic grade schools. Griffin students also continued a long history of public service with members of the Christian Involvement course going out to serve in the private and public institutions of the Springfield community.

The baseball team repeated on its performance of the previous year and produced a Capital Con- ference Championship. Coach Gary Door took over the head job and guided the basketball team to a shared City champion- ship. The varsity football team opened their season with a loss but went on to win the next nine games and the Conference title yet once again before losing their final game in the second round of the playoffs. In the Spring a new college- type of registration was intro- duced. The students made up their own schedules, choosing the teachers and times for the classes that they would have in the Fall. The administration moved out of the offices that had been located in what had once been part of the Viatorian residence and were re- located in bright new offices carved out of what had been the original main office area in the central wing of the school. In the summer the Viatorians celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the establishment of their Ameri- can Province. In the midst of the celebrationg Padre Canella passed away. He died in his sleep after spending the previous evening with his fellow Viatorians from Canada, Europe and the United States celebrating the event. The football team made it all the way to the championship game for the State title, losing that last contest to a powerful Geneseo High team. But along the way, it offered the fans the finest season in the history of football at Griffin. Needless to say they were City and Confer- ence champs and ranked til in the State. That Fall also saw the reintro- duction of soccer at Griffin. With Jeff Aldrich and Barry Beagles as coaches, the newest Cyclone team had a 9-5 season. The basketball team offered their fans an exciting season but due to a technical problem were forced to forfeit nearly the entire season by the IHSA. Drama made a comeback at Griffin after many years with a talent show and then an ex- tremely well received production of Godspell directed by Deanna Austin, Brother Vince and Mr. Wojcicki.
