Mr. Brosamer left to become principal of St. Theresa's High School in Decatur. Father George Harris replaced him as assistant principal and became Dean of Studies. Mrs. Deanna Austin, Mr. Frank Saputo, Mr. Barney Callaghan, Mr. Richard Grigsby and Mrs. Ron Wojcicki as Band Director, were the new teachers.

Coach Cooper took over as head baseball coach and the team played in excess of forty games. winning the majority of the con- tests. Two hundred three received their diplomas at the years end. Coach Simon Cory guided the Cyclone tennis team to a 16-2 rec- ord, one of its best ever. The var- sity basketball team had a 24-4 season and the football team re- corded a 9-l season and once again made the State playoffs. The baseball team repeated on its performance of the previous year and produced a Capital Con- ference Championship. Coach Gary Door took over the head job and guided the basketball team to a shared City champion- ship. The varsity football team opened their season with a loss but went on to win the next nine games and the Conference title yet once again before losing their final game in the second round of the playoffs. In the Spring a new college- type of registration was intro- duced. The students made up their own schedules, choosing the teachers and times for the classes that they would have in the Fall. The administration moved out of the offices that had been located in what had once been part of the Viatorian residence and were re- located in bright new offices carved out of what had been the original main office area in the central wing of the school. In the summer the Viatorians celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the establishment of their Ameri- can Province. In the midst of the celebrationg Padre Canella passed away. He died in his sleep after spending the previous evening with his fellow Viatorians from Canada, Europe and the United States celebrating the event.
