Waters Mr. Alan Brown, still among the faculty, Margaret Ford, Gabriel Owusu, Carol Sheber, Paula Rogers, Mary Miller and William Waters, also still a teacher at Griffin, signed on for the 1977 school year. Students of Sacred Heart and Griffin joined in making the Pep Club of l977 an integral part of school life. They had a lot to cheer about as the varsity football team which had shown such promise as Sophomores delivered with a 8-I-0 season. The varsity basketball team lost its coach, Mr. Selinger, six weeks into the season, when he resigned to take a job with the Secretary of State's office. Mr. Bill Fleischli stepped in and the team finished the sea- son with an overall I5-12 record. The golf team also had a good year placing first in District Tournament and second in the Conference. Varsity baseball had a 7-8 record. Intramural bowling continued to be extremely popu- lar and was enjoyed by students from both schools. Another resignation came at the end of the baseball season. Coach Murawski called it quits after I4 years as head coach of the varsity team. Mr. Bill Non- neman, an assistant football coach for eight years, was ap- pointed to replace him for the I977-78 season. Jer Cleve Ron Gre oire Barry Bea les W S S The 1977-78 school year was to prove a very difficult one for the faculty of Griffin High School. New members of the faculty in- cluded Mr. Jerry Cleve, Ron Gre- goire, Hudson Venerable, Barry Beagles, Erskine Route and Joe McFarland who is now head of the counseling department at Griffin. The financial pressures that had been building for many years took their toll on the principal, Father Dupuis, soon after the new school year got underway. His health broke under the strain and Brother Mike Rice who had served as Dean of Studies and Assistant principal and Father Charles Bolser, the Financial Showboat players packed em in. 'V' Hudson Venerable Erskine Route joe McFarland Administrator and Assistant Principal handled the administra- tion of the school through most of the year. Of great help was Mr. Jim Belz, the Dean of Discipline. The worsening financial picture prompted the Viatorian commu- nity and the Diocese to take steps to correct the financial crises and before the year ended fears that the school might have to close were laid to rest. The big musicals reappeared on the scene with Showboat,' play- ing to capacity audiences in the Academy's theatre. U A talented and dedicated Sister Therese Martin, 0. P., directed most ofthe SHA! GHS musical dramas.
