Major criticisms centered around financial difficulties, too many students in some classes and above average teaching loads for several instructors. Another piece of good news for the beleaguered principal was that the pastors of Springfield had voted to organize an annual Grif- fin Sunday Collection to provide needed operating funds for the school. Despite the misgivings of some faculty members who questioned the wisdom of making major changes in an evaluation year, modular scheduling was intro- duced in the 1971-72 school year. In fact the new system proved to be very successful and quite im- pressed the evaluating committee. This program had been due to the efforts and hard work of Father Neych, the Dean of Studies. Mr. Belz had succeeded Father Field as Dean of Discipline and began a revision of the dress code which proved to be popular. The football team yet once again took both the City and Conference Championships. The National Honor Society began a new program of tutoring students who were having trou- bles with their studies. Under Brother Kass's leadership, the Advanced Placement Program began to flourish at Griffin and continues to grow larger each year The class of 1972 numbered 175. National Honor Society members were assigned tutoring duties to assist students deficient in their studies.

The team of outside evaluators visited in January. The report of their findings arrived in March. The report was very positive and attached special significance to the tremendous community sup- port that the school enjoyed.

For the first time in the history of the two schools no new Viatorians joined the faculty. Both Oklahoma and The King and I were presented by the stu- dents of Sacred Heart and Griffin that year. The senior trip for those lucky enough to go was to Hawaii and judging by the cover- age it received in the yearbook, the prom remained the highlight of the year.
