The dedicated faculty of St. Joseph's Cathedral High School join with your devoted parents in thanking the Holy Spirit for the graces that have enfolded you during these supremely important formative years. In your Pastor, Monsignor Dillon, his worthy assistants, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, you had before you a constant example of virtue in the concrete, learning, piety, and the charity of Christ. The early cultivation of virtue wields a greater influence on your future than the acquisition of mere profane knowledge. Virtue is power and blessedness. Rejoice then and invoke the Blessed Virgin Mary, Star of the Sea, to implore an abundance of heavenly gifts on her Marian Year graduates. With affectionate blessings, Devotedly in J. M. Mother Mary Adrienne principal i946 i954 A Tribute to 0ur Principal Cathedral High pays tribute to Mother Mary Adrienne who has been its principal since l946. Mother will be remembered by Cathedralites past and present as a devoted leader of a loyal faculty, as a faithful instructor of truth, and as a sincere friend to all in need, Many students recall with appreciation Mother's morning hall-talks, during which she outlined in clear, forceful words the procedure for an unusual day and the pattern for correct social behaviour. Returning alumnae bear witness to Mother's ability to impart knowledge and to win the confidence of her girls. During Mother's eight years as principal, our student body has in- creased, new courses have been added, and better equipment installed. But unmeasured by numbers or material things is the spirit of Cathedral -an ardent devotion to Mary, a deep love for the Mother Church of the Diocese, and a sincere respect for authority. This is the basic pattern of a true Cathedralite, which Mother found here in l946, and which she has kept alive in us. May those who follow in her steps and ours be true to the heritage which she leaves. With deep gratitude, the faculty and students bid farewell to Mother Mary Adrienne and beg the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary to bless her for her fidelity and her fortitude. Wofker War? .fdclrienne ,ww essage from 0ur Rector Beloved Graduates of the Marian Year: My message is one of gratitude and thanksgiving for you and your teachers. I desire to express my gratitude and appreciation to Mother Mary Adrienne and her faculty. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are members of that glorious community who estab- lished the first Sisters' school in San Diego over seventy years ago. Those pioneer Sisters may be compared with St. Patrick and St. Brigid for the Sisters heeded the call of God, and their successors have been laboring in season and out of season for the welfare of Holy Mother Church. I rejoice when the graduates return to see meg I want you to come back, from time to time. Do you know that it is whispered among the Sisters lthey do not want to tell you openly? that you are one of the best classes to leave Cathedral High? I rejoice with you and dedicate you to the Blessed Mother! I will remember you at the altar, and I ask as a favor that once in a while you will remember the Priests and Sisters in your Masses and prayers.
