I Sf. Cfare of .fdmiiddi . . . Lover of Poverty, friend of St. Francis, and foundress of Poor Clares. Clare was eighteen when she was inspired by a Lenten sermon to lejave all and follow Christ. For forty-two years she kept her religiousivows and inspired others to gain souls for God by prayer and penance. Her absolute trust in Divine Providence was rewarded by a miracle. When the Saracens scaled the walls of her convent St. Clare 'held before their amazed eyes a radiant ciborium. She reminded the Lord that she and her Sisters were in need of His protection. The Saracens were terror stricken and fled from the convent.
