That you have dedicated your Yearbook to Mary Immaculate reflects the valiant character of your class. Evidently realities impress you. No wonder you stand deservedly high. Your academic studies were based on the virtues of Heaven's Queen and her Divine Son's love for you. The results dis- tinguish you and rejoice your beloved Pastor, Monsignor Dillon, his worthy assistants, Venerable Mother Adrienne and those other brilliant educators who smoothed your path- ways to this happy goal. Now that laurels of scholastic victory crown four years of perseverance may the Holy Spirit fortify your high resolves To you, and to your devoted parents, my esteem and affec- tionate blessings. Sincerely, +, o Bishop of San Diego Right Rev. Francis Dillon chats informally with Seniors. Stairway to the stars! Everything was so new and so far beyond us. Cathedral drew us from all points of San Diego. Freshman oflicers taught us the strength of united action. Love and loyalty for Cathedral High grew deeper as the year ended. Memories of our Sophomore days glisten with a Christmas party, a Spring Dance, and a May procession. Activities of our Junior year included cake sales, rafHes, and noon dances. Our big dance, Misty Mood, was a prelude to our Junior success, the Prom of '52, entitled, no less, Orchids in the Moonlight. Seniors now, and soon to be remembered forever as the class of '53. We leave the memory of an aqua sweater, a satin-crested ring, and a 3-dimensional C to thee, Cathedral High. Lover of Poverty, friend of St. Francis, and foundress of Poor Clares. Clare was eighteen when she was inspired by a Lenten sermon to lejave all and follow Christ. For forty-two years she kept her religiousivows and inspired others to gain souls for God by prayer and penance. Her absolute trust in Divine Providence was rewarded by a miracle. When the Saracens scaled the walls of her convent St. Clare 'held before their amazed eyes a radiant ciborium. She reminded the Lord that she and her Sisters were in need of His protection. The Saracens were terror stricken and fled from the convent. We always try to do our best: VVe filled Red Cross boxes and made bunnies under the guidance of Adrienne. NVQ' saved our pennies for the Pagan Babies. A three-day Retreat brought us close to God. Wle can win: Nancy displayed her talents in the Medical Essay Contest. Julia combined both beauty and poise to win the title Miss Point Lorna. And we can lose: Wie got on the band wagon a little late for the Patron Drive, but we showed our loyalty in the end. But we never, never get those blues: We spent eighteen interesting hours mastering first aid. Hip, hip, hurryffor the green and gray: We were thrilled with the results of our dance-- Rustle of Spring. 'l'o be loyal and true we will strive: We took our places with the rest in the Music Festival and in the Garden Party given by the San Diego College for Women. The time had come . . . we were entering our first year of high school as Freshmen . . . young tender babes about to be gobbled up by the mighty Seniors! OCTOBER . . . Initiation was just around the corner . . . terrihed at the outset, we emerged with a new feeling toward Seniors . . . they are human beings, after all. NOVEMBER . . . We chose our class colors . . . red and grey. We also elected our ofhcers . . . the very best. DECEMBER . . . We gave a Christmas party . . . with gifts . . . gifts that were truly for the Christ Child . . . because, instead of giving them to each other, we gave them to Christ's little ones . . . the orphans in Ti- juana. JANUARY . . . Semester Exams loomed before us . . . Algebra . . . Latin and the rest . . . we managed to pull through. OlflJ I'I,a FEBRUARY . . . Retreat brought recollection and silence . . . we doubted our ability to restrain our busy tongues . . . but the Seniors set a noble example. MARCH . . . We attended the noon-time Mass in the Cathedral . . . and lent our voices to the Holy Week and Easter services. APRIL . . . We held a surprise auction and were supported by every student at Cathe- dral . . . our success proved phenomenal. MAY . . . The Music Festival gave many of us a chance to show off our voices . . . and our pretty formals. JUNE . . . Soon we will have to bid farewell to our big sister Seniors, and we will be ready to start our second year toward the goal they have reached. We pray that we may be as loyal and true to Cathedral as they have been. cfm, ofa., Left to right: C. Cooper, B. Mangin, Krcjsa, and Baltes. Mice- .MA for? Entering Cathedral forty-three strong and representing sixteen grammar schools, we were all impressed by the cheerful friendliness which the upperclassmen showed us during our first day at Cathedral. We still remember how our good friends, the Seniors, came out with the cry, Off with the lipstick, Froshl and how, on Initiation Day, they were most anniious to dress us up as clowns and tramps-one girl was a pumpkin! Following initiation, we had elections for class officers, with Mary Louise Paulich at the helm assisted by Ludevina Arciaga, vice presi- dent, Lorraine Nevcs, secretary, Carmen Jaco- belly, treasurer. With leaders chosen, we select- ed our class colors, red and grey, fashioned our emblem, and wrote our class song. At Christmas, our party was a tremendous success, entertainment being supplied by Mary .Io da Silva, Patricia Brame and Yolanda Escu- dero. During May, the highlight of our activities centered around participation in the Music Festival, a Cake Walk that we sponsored de- spite certain scattered showersf' and daily May devotions at the shrine erected in our room. May Our Lady ever continue to guide our steps through our coming years at Cathedral! Cfadzi O!kL'fZI':5 Left to right: L. Neves, C. Jacobelly, M. L. Paulich, L. Arciaga. f jI Qf5AI'l'L8I'l gy...
