In the perpetuation of His priesthood through the ministry of those whom He has chosen by divine vocation, Our Blessed Lord would seem to have exhausted the very omnipotence of heaven to bring man closer to Himself, for in the exercise of his divine office His priest becomes truly one with Himg nan alter Christus,H a mediator with God by whom all may be made one with Him. In the light of that eternal destiny for which we are created then, what greater or more important work can be entrusted by God to man than that of preparing for the priesthood those who will care in succeeding generations for the spiritual well-being of His people. Fifty years of such consecrated service in Cathedral Preparatory Seminary gives to our diocese and to the church an inspiring and enviable record of holy achievement in the zealous ministry of those priests whose vocations it fostered, as well as in the high ideals and aspirations of those of the laity who graduated from its halls. That it may continue to expand and to foster many more vocations among our youth will be ever our fervent prayer, nad multos annos.n VL 722171 ML

This joy, which animates all the long, laborious years of his preparation, is also experienced by those who are permitted by God to share in the grace of his calling. As Cathedral College, our preparatory seminary, completes fifty sacerdotal years of assisting young men in the fulfillment of their priestly aspirations, we are pleased to share in the happiness of this occasion. In looking back over these fifty blessed years, we are deeply grateful to God for the rich harvest with which He has blessed this work. During these years, more than a thousand graduates of Cathedral College have come forth, some to serve here in our own Diocese of Brooklyn, others to minister in more distant mission fields, and still others to take a vital place as capable, exemplary members of the Catholic laity, dedicated to the principles of their faith and loyal to the ideals of their Alma Mater. Together with the Faculty and students of Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, both past and present, we celebrate with joy and gratitude this memorable anniversary. We fer- vently pray that Christ, the Eternal Priest, may continue to call many more zealous, apostolic laborers into His vineyard. May He bless their years of preparation under the patronage and protection of Mary, the Mother of Priests. -r My Q ishop of Broo n

Its jubilee observance should fittingly evoke the prayers of all of us in fer vent gratitude to Almighty God and in loving tribute to Mary Im aculate, the Queen and Pat- roness of the College. A good school not only dispenses knowledge, it shapes minds, it fosters ideals, it engenders loyalties, it develops lasting friendships. A preparatory seminary does all these things. And beyond that it reaches out to the young and gen- srous soul to attract him to Christ and to bind him steadfastly to Christ for life by the ties of allegiance and devotion. The life of Cathedral has been shared by many who will be reading the pages of this Annual. It has been a glorious privilege to be part of it, for it has been a work of divine grace. It is a wondrous thing to behold now what the grace of God has accomplished in these five decades with young minds and hearts, weak in their fallen nature, but ennobled by the touch of the Spirit of God. The college shines today in the reflected glory of the fine priests and laymen who are its sons. we count it a great personal blessing to have been associated so closely with them. Titular Bishop of Valentiniana
