As you prepare under the maternal gaze of the Queen of the Apostles to receive the superhuman power of consecrating the Body and Blood of the Lord and of remitting sins, as well as the abundant grace of the Holy Spirit, which will enable you to fulfill worthily the ministry of reconciliation, we say with St. Paul: Let every man remain in the calling in which he was called C1 Cor. 7, 205. Docility and fidelity to the divine call are indispensable for anyone who wishes to cooperate more intimately with jesus Christ in the salvation of souls and to assure himself a more splendid crown of glory in eternity. This joy, which animates all the long, laborious years of his preparation, is also experienced by those who are permitted by God to share in the grace of his calling. As Cathedral College, our preparatory seminary, completes fifty sacerdotal years of assisting young men in the fulfillment of their priestly aspirations, we are pleased to share in the happiness of this occasion. In looking back over these fifty blessed years, we are deeply grateful to God for the rich harvest with which He has blessed this work. During these years, more than a thousand graduates of Cathedral College have come forth, some to serve here in our own Diocese of Brooklyn, others to minister in more distant mission fields, and still others to take a vital place as capable, exemplary members of the Catholic laity, dedicated to the principles of their faith and loyal to the ideals of their Alma Mater. Together with the Faculty and students of Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, both past and present, we celebrate with joy and gratitude this memorable anniversary. We fer- vently pray that Christ, the Eternal Priest, may continue to call many more zealous, apostolic laborers into His vineyard.
