Your old men shall dream dreams. A-dk 5.Zf.3Ta...,f Mak 'N 4' Hum mul' Autumn is the year's own time of the long sleep, the summary if not the farewell. The hills are baring themselves to the buffeting of winter. And yet the hills still stand in the spring- time, months later. The eternities prevail. On this, the Colden Jubilee of Cathedral, let us pause to look before and after. The work begun so hopefully a half century ago has, through God,s favor, been abundantly blessed. More than half of the priests now serving the faithful in the two dio- ceses which comprise Long Island were trained at Cathe- dral. A great many other Cathedralites found that God's plans for them led in directions other than to the altar of God. Both groups have been the richer for having attended Cathedral, and she, in turn, is justifiably proud of her sons among the clergy and among the laity alike. A To some, Cathedral may seem to be old, but she still manifests the vibrancy of youth. The opening of the new Queens Division is abundant evidence of her undiminished vigor, and a portent of even greater service to the Diocese in the years to come. With gratitude for the manifold blessings of the past fifty years, and with confident reliance on the continued favor of Divine Providence, we place our beloved semi- nary sub tuum praesidium, Sancta Dei Genitrixf' - Very Reverend Monsignor Robert E. Welsh

Can ever quite pass out of utter grief And wholly perish. -Robert Trost Dark days come, death, even the death of the two men named John, is inevitable. But nothing cherished ever wholly perishes. The sadness of june, and the tragedy of November, nineteen sixty-three are passing things, and life's end is no end at all. Man persists, man with the capacity to dream and hope, and dream again, just as these beloved who have gone before us with the courage of their faith in God and the promised inheritance of His heavenly domain. Your young men shall see visions
