Hickory Dai Volume 61, No. 265 ESTABLISHED SEPT. 11. 1915 Covers Greater Hickory, Hub of Victim WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, NOVEMB Southerner Elected 39th President Broyhill Bucks Democratic Tide Republican James T Broyhill bucked a generally strong Demox 4 atic trend in the 10th Congressional District to overwhelmingly win re-election to an eighth term in the U.S House of Representatives. The 49-year-old Lenoir native stacked up a large margin by winning each of the district's seven counties. He amassed an unofficial majority of more than 32,000 votes against Democratic challenger John J. ' Jack'' Hunt of Cleveland County It was one of BroyhilFs largest victory margins ever In 1974 the veteran congressman fought off a tough challenge from Democrat Jack L Rhyne. Complete but unofficial returns show Broyhill with 99,769 votes to 67,177 for Hunt, a dentist and businessman from Lattimore The 10th Congressional District includes Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba. Gaston. Cleveland and Watauga counties Broyhill captured his largest margin of victory in Catawba County, where he nearly doubled Hunt's vote. The incumbent garnered 23.622 votes to 11,934 for Hunt.
