EVENING CLASSES Catawba Valley Technical Institute's Evening classes offer a diversity of courses ranging from elementary instruction in reading and writing to courses in vocational-technical and business skill development, as well as courses for cultural and personal enrichment. While many of these are held on the CVTI campus, others are conducted or may be organized in surrounding communities or within a particular business or industry throughout the area served by CVTI. Currently classes are regularly scheduled in Taylorsville, Statesville, and Mooresville. 22 FEATURES

Registration is to some students searching a week for a 9:00 — 10:30 class on Tuesday and Thursday to complete their schedule when one wasn't offered to begin with, writing out all information on regis- tration cards with instructions Please Print, and to complete the student's exciting day, he finds he has misplaced his trial schedule and is completely lost. Students are required to visit their assigned ad- visors to complete a trial schedule before registration. On registration day, the student completes the sched- ule and other forms. He is ready to be sent to check- ing stations, making sure the proper information is filled out correctly and completely. Next, he goes to designated stations to pay tuition and buys necessary materials for each class. FEATURES 21

At CVTI, the newer philosophy of learning has been implemented. AH resources to enhance learning are coordinated from one point. A strong nucleus is formed by drawing together the library collection, the audio-visual media, and the printing areas. In today's world of fast changing technology, this ap- proach is a more logical one than separating each support area of learning as has been done in the past. It is not what one learns, but how one learns it that counts in society today. Bringing all materials to- gether we feel is the best approach to enable instruc- tors, students, and members of the community to keep abreast of what is happening. FEATURES 23
