We were just green” Freshmen, and it took us a little time to settle down to serious work, but we finally managed, with the help of the teachers. In 194 there were just seventeen of our original group, but we were joined by two new class- mates, Royd Bowman and Hazel Eller, making a total of nineteen Sophomores. In 1949, we started out as a group of twelve Juniors, but we lost two classmates, and that left ten of us to brave the trials and tribulations of all Juniors. We were thrilled when we re- ceived our class rings on November 7, 1949, and could talk of nothing else for almost a week. We gave the Junior-Senior Banquet on April 21, 1950, carrying out the Dutch theme. In 1950, we started our last and most important year of High School with ten dignified Seniors. In 1950, we started our last and most important year of High School with ten dignified Seniors. Our coach and teacher, Mr. Thad Jones, left us, and Mr. B.L. Kiser took his place. We are living up to our motto, Forward ever, Backward never,” and realizing the fulfillment of the 1950 Seniors’ motto, He who findeth knowledge, findeth life”. Martha Myers, Historian MR.FRANK BOOTH - - - Over two dozen graduates of our school gratefully remember his gift at commencement - - - A Bible, with students’ name in gold, and class date. Nearly every student in our school has at some time or other been the recipient of some gift by our esteemed neighbor and friend, and we know we have no better friend than Mr. Booth. Many, many thanks for your kind rememberances all along the way. p ecij I had finished reading a book which ended so happily for everyone that 1 began to think about all of my classmates and their futures. I must have fallen asleep, but what I saw convinced me that I had been carried in my sleep to some future world. I seemed to be in a wonderful and spacious hall. There were beautiful gold statues and silver vases set around; the walls were lined with mirrors. In all my life I had never seen such splen- dor. At the farther end of the hall was a raised throne on which a lovely woman sat. She seemed to be in a daze and appeared to be greatly surprised at my presence. Then in a silvery voice that reminded me of running streams, she said, Why dost thou come here; thou art a mortal and no mortal is allowed here.” Impelled by some curious instinct, I told her that I wished to know the future of all my classmates. She led me to one of the mirrors and bade me look. She then disappeared. I gazed steadily at it, but nothing happened. Finally, when I had nearly despaired, I saw a light illuminating the already bright place. Then I saw someone in the distance; the scene came closer, and I recognized Betty Boggs, the first woman President of the United States, talking to none other than Wayne Moore. She had recently appointed him Secretary of Agriculture. The next scene was in California, where I recognized Martha Myers, who had become famous for her book on the new methods of teaching kindergarten. As this scene faded, another one appeared. I saw Billy Setzer with a cigar in his mouth. He had become one of the richest executives in the world. His secretary was none other than Virginia Huffman, one of the highest paid women in the world. This time the scene appeared in Chicago. I saw one of the world’s largest theaters, with crowds of expensively dressed people streaming in. The name of the star was in lights. Ray- nell Matthews !!! I could hardly believe it. This was the opening night of the most talked about ballet of the year. The next scene was on a baseball field, where I recognized Mack Bridges. He was playing baseball on the National League team. I learned that he was voted the most valuable player in this profession. His batting average was one thousand. As I was rejoicing over the good news, the scene changed once more. This time it was in a far distant country, Paris, France. There I saw Jimmy Morrow who had become a world famous clothes designer. This news was not too surprising, for he was noted for his tasteful choice of clothes in high school. As this scene faded away, another appeared. I saw the world’s largest milk plant. I then learned that Royd Bowman was the owner. His numerous dairy farms were completely stocked with nothing but Jersey cows. Experts had found that Jersey milk was the best. It costs less and is the best,” was his slogan which almost put the Pet and Carnation milk plants out of business. In the next scene I found that I was looking into an art museum. I saw some beautiful paint- ings, and immediately began to search for the name of the artist. I was dazzled when I saw the name, Phyllis Kale. Suddenly the scene began to grow dim. I came to myself and found the book in my hand, but the impression remained with me that I had been transported to another world for a glimpse of of the future. Phyllis Kale Class Will We, the Seniors of '51, have felt for some time that our demise was near; we have felt that school was beginning to disagree with us and that the members of the faculty have conspired to accomplish the death of the most brilliant class the walls of Catawba High and the teachers thereof have ever frowned upon. The bitter doses of lessons we have taken with daily regular ity have hastened, rather than prolonged, our class demise; and we know with sorrowful certainty that the hour of our departure is near at hand. Therefore, being so soon to pass from these scenes of educational activity, we do make and declare this to be our last will and testament of the class of ’51. ARTICLES: I. We collectively bequeath to the Juniors, our rightful and worthy successors, our tendency to make a little knowledge go a long way in the classroom; also our ability to throw faculty members off the trail when we were bluffing. II. To Mr. Tolliver we leave the unfailing good humor of the entire class. We are certain he will need this in dealing with the Seniors who succeed us. III. To Mrs. Musgrove and Mr. Kiser we leave our sincere thanks. Your guidance was needed and appreciated. IV. In order that our talents may not be forgotten, we will as follows: Item 1. I, Phyllis Kale, do hereby will and bequeath to Bobby Sigmon my outstanding ability to ring the bell on time as I have done. Item 2. I, Virginia Huffman, do hereby will and bequeath to Minnie Lou Campbell and Jo Ann Kale my excellent ability to take up the lunch money. r Item 3 I, Royd Bowman, do hereby will and bequeath to Larry Frazier my ability to do business with BIG SHOTS.” Item 4. I, Wayne Moore, do hereby will and bequeath to David Abemathey my skill in playing basket- ball. Item 5 I, Betty Boggs, do hereby will and bequeath to Sarah Capps my characterizing privilege of telling jokes in study hall. Item 6. We, Martha Myers and Wayne Moore, do hereby will and bequeath to Betty Jane Capps and Johnr.y Moore our cast obtained in playing basketball. Item 7. 1, Raynell Mathews, do hereby will and bequeath to Georgie Sigmon my desire to laugh in class. Item 8 I, Bill Setzer, do hereby will and bequeath to Jim Hunsucker my adorable figure in order that he won’t have to eat so much. Item 9 I, Jimmy Morrow, do hereby will and bequeath to Jim Sigmon my ability to speak only when spoken to. Item 10. I, Mack Bridges, do hereby will and bequeath to Jake Abernathey my privilege of talking in class.
