Class History The entire world has been startled by the astounding facts brought to light concerning the past life of the 1950 Senior Class of Catawba High. You may not find the events that I am about to relate, in the pages of American Histories, but they are as worthy of mentioning as any of the deeds performed by the heroes whose names appear in famous books. Would you have me prove my words? Then stretch your ears and give heed. In the year 1946 eighteen handsome, smiling boys and girls descended upon Catawba High as Freshmen, without the calm and dignity that has always characterized our actions. We saw before us Mr. Harrington, Mr. Jones and Mrs. Musgrove to be our teachers. We knew then that we would have to settle down to studying. We lingered as Freshmen until the following summer, successfully meeting the requirements of Freshmen. In the year of 1947 we advanced and took possession of the strongholds of the Sophs--greeting teachers, friends and classmates. We found that there were only fourteen to struggle through the Sophomore year. Mr. Tolliver had replaced Mr. Harrington. In spite of our greenness in Biology, History and other courses we obtained strong foothold in them. Now having conquered the lessons of the Sophs we advanced to Juniors. In the year 1948 we were Jolly Juniors indeed at Catawba. Realizing now that we were Juniors, we would have to settle down to work. We found that four classmates had departed and Pansy Hubbard had joined our group making eleven to master the studies of the forthcoming year. On January 21, 1949 we were the happiest students in school. Guess what? Our most beautiful rings we had long hoped for had arrived. Then on May 13, 1949 the great event of the year was coming to an end and we had met the requirements of Juniors ready to march to the last year at Catawba High. The year 1949 was marked by important reconstruction for the humble group who had invaded the Freshman Class three years before now became Seniors. The mighty leaders of the realm and Invincible Class of 1950. We were happy to know that eleven Juniors were still together with an ole classmate who had been detained from studies for a year. Together we will struggle to the end of our journey at Catawba high. We Seniors noted for our ability and diligence have come to the fourth round of knowledge at Catawba with our motto “He who findeth knowledge findeth life” impressed upon our shields. The class of 1950 goes forth to invade and conquer new territories. 12 Christine Robinson, Historian
