Beginning in Septem- ber, Dr. Joyce Brothers addressed women on their changing role in the ' 80 ' s. On October 21, Founders Day, Governor James G. Martin was in- troduced by Dr. Knott, and asked North Carolina to consider the problem of illiteracy. Sponsored by the Ralph W. Ketner School of Busi- ness, Ronald B. Gelbman of Johnson and Johnson spoke in a Catawba Col- lege Executive Sympo- sium Series. Hugh L. McColl, Jr. of NCNB Cor- poration also attended a symposium directed to- ward business students. 20 Work! Work! As if classes aren ' t enough! The wall mural depicts a typi- cal day in downtown Salisbury at the turn of the century. Love, Mom Dad Surprisel You didn ' t expect to find this in your mailbox, did you? It is customary for an editor to use this page to talk about mem- ories, and maybe use a guote to express their meaning. But this year, in keeping with the theme of the book, I think the future is crucial at this point, Catawba is changing physically, and mental- ly as well. I was fortunate enough to find out just how much atti- tudes have changed, by working with people who wanted to make this book worth keeping. We are realizing that whether we live at Cat-U for 3 semesters or 4 years, it has been home; a place Where we experience, not just exist. As talk of ceasing production of a yearbook continues to be turned over, I realize that if we receive a book or a magazine does not really matter, as long as we want it enough to be a part of it. Thanks again to David Setzer, Dennis Davidson, and eveyone involved in getting this little book finished (on time!) Sincerely, OJuta y •5? ' TJ£, S „ • ' . ' ::•;.. 9r;8 ' r Â
