Under the direction of the fourteen elected Sen- ators, members of the Student Government As- sociation — all Catawba students — strive to uphold the name of the institution, to promote peace and tranquility in the halls, to initiate and supervise student activities, and to promote sound thinking and right acting among all members. The placing of memorial volumes in the school library, commemorating the parents of students and faculty, the purchasing of a tape recorder and sound equipment, the sponsoring of a student art exhibit, were included among the outstanding activities of the year. The Senate has issued various publications, sponsored social activities, and supervised all school-wide elections. The annual Homecoming celebration was also under its auspices.
