Omwake President of the College Dr. Raymond Jenkins Dean of the College To my dear friends of Catawba College: I am sure you all join in hearty congratulations to the board of editors for the publication of this book. We are deeply gratified at the change of name, for now we have an annual whose very name signifies one of the most precious ideals for winch Catawba stands, the perpetuation of deep and lasting friendship. The contents of the book are such as will link happy memories with the faces of those we learned to know and love in the four years ' we spent on this campus. Because of the associations stimulated by the pictures, sketches and records, be- cause of the memories revived of long forgotten incidents, because of the freshening of friendships when we look at the pictures of classmates and schoolmates, this book, the Sayakini, becomes one of the most cherished volumes in the libraries you are beginning to collect. May I share with you an expression of thanks to the editors for the precious volume they have produced, and may I also etxend to you my heartfelt good wishes for success in every noble enterprise you may undertake here, or after you leave the halls of Catawba. If an archeologist of 2941 unearths this volume, he will behold, imaged here in happy beauty, a vital record of college life in 1941. The name of Sayakini, meaning friendliness, is well suited to this scrapbook as its pictures will in after years, like the old family album, keep alive the friend- ships you have made here.
