RALPH c. BROWN Congratulations to the Class of 1955! Members of your class have worked hard to maintain the high traditions of Catasauqua High School. Your achievements in the classroom, in sports, in activities, and in good citizenship are worthy of emulation. We hope that you have not only learned basic knowledge that will assist you in your chosen vocation, but also have acquired those social virtues which are so important to a happy and successful life. The word commence- ment denotes, to begin and not to end , there- fore, it is our hope that your graduation will be the beginning of a greater search for knowledge which will make you a worthwhile citizen of your community. C.. SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL MR. CLYDE S. FRANKENFIELD With this volume the members of the Class of 1955 have recorded the story of their years in Catasauqua High School. In the years ahead, no doubt, many of the mem- bers will peruse these pages, recalling scenes and incidents depicted herein, and in nostalgic mood, refer to them as the best times of their lives. As a parting word to the Class of 1955, permit me to say that while you, in this your class recording, would like to refer to these events and achievements in the super- lative best , your teachers would like to say that, for you, there will always be better things. Indeed the best training that your high school can give you is the ability and determination to strive for better things. This is truly the greatest gift of your American heritage. Out of the never ending struggle for better things there has developed the free America of your day. And the Class of 1955 must never forget to carry on with this tra- dition. In the great new world of tomorrow all your efforts must be combined to make better those things which we now call best. Thus, you may make yourselves worthy of your heritage. In our freshman year we chose our courses and eagerly began our new studies. The highlight of this year was our trip to the Franklin Institute and the zoo in Philadelphia. Our sophomore year was filled with excitement and happiness in both scholastic and athletic achievements. ln this year we regret- fully learned that one of our favorite instructors, Mr. Fred Cap Starch was leaving the teaching profession to enter business. We reached the halfway mark at C.H.S. and entered our iunior year. As we returned for our Junior year, we were greeted by the pounding of hammers and the buzzing of saws. Yes, it was our new gym being built behind the high school building. The arrival of our class rings and the annual Junior Oratorical Contest were the biggest moments of this year. As a class, we spon- sored the Senior Farewell, which was enjoyed by everyone. Then it was the fall of 1954, the beginning of our senior year. This year had been filled with excitement. Our class chose many new methods of raising money for our class. We enioyed a very good year as far as athletic competition was concerned. We put on our annual Senior Class Play, and all too soon the time had come for us to leave behind the halls, friends, and other beloved memories of our Alma Mater. As we enter into this new world, may we never for- get the wonderful times we have had at Cl-1.5.
