XVe now began diving into our new studies instead of into 'iYe Olde Swimming Hole. Though Hgreenhornsn, we successfully found our right classrooms after many lost minutes of wander- ing through those seemingly endless halls. Our helpful guides throughout our Freshman year were Miss Iluseman and Mr. XVoodroHe, our homeroom teachers. It certainly took awhile to accept the idea of being separated into different sections. It especially took us a while to get used to our new subjects such as Latin, speech, civics, and algebra. Our basketball team proved its ability with a record of thirteen wins and seven losses. In baseball, our record showed four wins and three losses. In football, the record was two wins, six losses, and one tie. One of our most important memoirs was our trip to Philadelphia. We visited the Philadelphia Zoo, the Planatarium, and other various historical spots. The zoo-keepers must have thought Miss Falk and Mr. Derby, our chaperones, brought some extra exhibits! We certainly gave them a job in keeping us all together! During this year we decided to give Mrs. DeLong, our gym instructor a shower, when we heard of her leaving C.H.S. in order to have a blessed event. Fun was had by all, both students and teachers. We had completed our first year of high school and looked forward to our sophomore year. W ftevwmgmqm- SOPHGMORE YEAR Climbing one more rung of the ladder we were now qualified to call ourselves sopho mores The going vvas still tough but we viere now in the swing of things Assemblies activities and dances kept our sophomore year far from boring Those Iowa State Tests gave our brains quite a teasing though But we recovered quickly enough from them, for we knew they meant the Christmas vacation was soon coming. In store for us were the gala occasions . . . e Christmas dance and the annual Christmas Candlelight Service. Not many of us could eat fish for dinner after dissecting specimens in biology class. Many of us had 'ibelly-aches for many days afterwards Remember? Also selected were our class colors, purple and white. We chose the white carnation as the class flower. The honor of the year was given to Mrs. Andrews to whom the yearbook was dedicated. Thousands of orders of Christmas cards, wallets, memo pads, and many other items were sold by our class. Our class treasury desperately needed that income and also the added capital from the refreshment stand operated at the football games. Christmas was an especially wonderful time. The pageant was celestrial to listen to and also to watch. Topping the festivities was a dance called the Snowman Frolic given by our class. In February, a Valen- tine dance was sponsored by the Art Club. A queen and two attendents were chosen. Another event of our senior year was the building of a new, modern gymnasium. This was to replace the old structure. Much interest was shown in the work. ,, Though we did not benefit directly, we were as proud of the Q 2 new building as anyunderclassmen. ' ' sy , Our sports record was not exceptional this year. In foot- ' JU ball, we won one game, tied two, and lost seven. Our basket- h X lg ball record was 10 games won, and ll games lost. In base- 5 1 ball, we enjoyed an average season. g . 9 Jn - Supremely successful was our Senior Class Play entitled House of Horrors . This comedy-farce thrilled the audience at every turn. The play was one of our most successful projects. An entrancing presentation during our senior year was the annual Spring Concert. Solos, dancing, and chorus work contributed to the success of this affair. The Senior Prom, enjoyed by all, was a gala event sponsored by the junior class in our honor. Exchanging class pictures and name cards were busy mo- ments which none of us shall ever forget. Coming much too soon was Senior Day, Baccalaureate Services, and Commencement. The play concerns janiee Cantrell and Chloe Clark, two ex-chorus girls, who have just been traveling in Australia and have just returned to the United States to learn that Janice has inherited the Cantrell Mansion , left to her by her uncle, Randolph Cantrell, the famous chemist who had been mysteriously drowned two years before. The girls, arriving at the Hhlansionl' late one stormy autumn night, hnd to their dismay, that instead of the line country estate their lawyer had described it as being, it is really just an old house badly in need of repairs. But that's not all. The house has the local reputation ol being haunted by the ghost of Randolph Cantrelll The house, as the girls discover, is tenanted by some very amazing people.
