Spartan runners wait patiently for the meet with James Logan and Canyon to begin. 3 QV af o' Cross Country --- Second in I-I.A.A.L. The long miles of arduous practice sessions paid off handsomely for Castro Valley's varsity and J.V.cross countryteams, which ended the season with a combined re- cord of 11 wins and 2 losses. By tying for second place in the H.A.A,L,, Spartan varsity harriers ranked 53rd in national ratings. Coach Oscar Sakamoto's varsity team, which lost only one meet, consisted of Bernie Kraus, Wilson Brooks, Norm Petrie, Neil J oergensen, Dave Fong, Greg Shepard, Randy Howard, Tim Biddinger and Buddy Clark. J.V. team members Jim Franckum, Bob Bisauta, Steve Hortzog, Larry Bellinger, Rich Dunstan and Jeff Rosenberg backed up the varsity and prepared runners for future com- petition and success on the varsity level. Randy Howard leads two runners from Alameda in the tri- meet at Arroyo. With gun in hand, Coach Oscar Sakamoto starts the varsity cross country meet with James Logan and Canyon.
