A snapshot of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Whayne, on their sabbatical leave in Rome, Italy. D With warm gratitude and sincere appreciation, we of the yearbook staff dedicate this i959 Laconian to Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Whayne, co-writers of our Alma Mater. We were a new school with only a borrowed song and in great need of an Alma Mater when they first considered composing it - Phyllis on the music and Tom on the words. This song was an immediate hit with the student body and has now become a part of the school that our students will always remember. Mrs. Whayne is the teacher of vocal music and director of the choir at Castro Valley High, and Mr. Whayne teaches at Oakland Junior High School. At the present they are both on sabbatical leave in Europe, taking with them their nine year old daughter, Gloria. Mrs. Whayne is studying at some of the great music centers there. They have given our school a gift in the Alma Mater and through the dedication of this book we would like to show a small part of the appre- ciation we wish to express.
