Castlewood District Erects New Elementary School Tliis picture of the elementary school was taken in January, 1958 before the building was completed. Johnson Brothers Construction Com- pany of Abingdon, Va., built this new elementary school which is located south of Castlewood High School. The building cost approximately $277,000. It has 14 class- rooms, a library, a principal’s suite, and numerous storage and utility rooms. The students in grades one through five, who had been attending classes in temporary buildings at Temple Hill, moved into this new school in March, 1958. The erection of this new building marks another step forward in the progress of Russell County schools. Plans are being made to add six class rooms and a cafeteria to this building. Also an auditorium and a band room are to be added to the present high school building. The voters in the Cas- tlewood District approved the sale of bonds to provide money for this purpose in an election in June, 1957. — (JANJZATIONS SCA Sponsors Care Drive, Revises Point System STUDENT COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION COUNCIL r ' ■ 1 : 1 L. Believing that those whose lot it is to toil within the earth’s recesses surrounded by peculiar dangers and deprived of sunlight and pure air, producing the commodity which makes possible the world’s progress, are entitled to protection and an equitable share of the fruits of their labor, we have formed the “United Mine Workers of America’’ for the purpose of establishing, by lawful means, the principles embraced in the body of our Constitution. The officers and members of Local 7950, United Mine Workers of America wish to commend the faculty of Castlewood High School for the outstanding educational training of the future citizens served by the Castlewood High School.
