Capitol Scholars Rhodes Scholar Have Social Studies. Will travel. left: Jodi, Stephanie, and Michelle went to the state copitol for 3 days during spring breok. The met Gib Lewis, talked to the cabinet members and repre- sentatives oi the House. They met Bill Hobby, who is Lieutenant Governor of Texas. Girls State flight: This summer I went to Texas Lutherian College for American Legion Girls State. We were there from about June 15-26 and there were around 580 girls there. We got to visit Austin and sit in on a special session. We [ormed city, country and state governments. I learned a ot and mode many new friends. iational Geography Awareness Week ovember 16 20 wos National Geography Awareness eek sponsered by the Notional Geographic Society. On le loud speaker, each morning of that week, there was trivia contest. The winner recieved an inflatable globe. At the end of the week, Ms. Hardy's classes hod a party where the students brought food from around the world as well os dressed in the countries' native dress. A good time was hod by all. Bobby Peck, a 1984 groduote of C.H.S., will be o Rhodes Scholar after he graduates from Princeton, this spring. Bobby wos o very octive student while ot C.H.S. He served os president of the Student Council, on outstanding member of the C.H.S. Band and wos the Valedictorian. Bobby earned the admiration and respect of both the students and faculty. Boys Stole The past summer I went to UT at Austin to represent Castleberry at American Legion Boys State. There were 957 other boys representing other schools. We studied government and ran for different oKices. I wos elected to top 28 Justice of Court of Appeols. We had to give 5 speeches if we ran for offices and the last one wos in front of everybody their. On the last day, I met Hobby and Clements. We had a lot of fun and got to play football in Austin Memorial Stodium. American Airlines Scholar I wos chosen as American Airlines Scholar ond went to Washington O.C. We spent two nights ond three days in the city ond toured all major sites, including the copitol, the White House and oil the monuments, including the Vietnom Memorial. I was choosen by the History De- partment to represent our school because of government and social studies advancements and conduct.
