Not just the usual changes of a few yew teachers, a coat of paint here and there, o: the new freshman coming in, but a very special change. Our theme this year was selected to present thp fact that this school year was the first full yea in the history of Castleberry to have air conditioning throughout the entire school. For the past 30 years we have not had air conditioning and have been on an early schedule for the first two weeks of school to beat the heat, but thi year we are KEEPING COOL. Not only is the air conditioning helping the students and the faculty, but it also symbolizes the personality of our school fron HOT items to COOL fods this year. Castleberry led the way in all sports and activities. Throughout the school year we left our competitors FROZEN solid a we passed by them in all areas of athletics. The band, choir, and the other school activities were also HOTTER than ever. The air conditioning is something that we have been waiting for and we will want to remember that all the hot days are finally over for the Lions There will never be another year like this year, and we have tried to capture all the special moments of your high school days. Here at Castleberry W' have always been COOL but this year more than ever FOR US IT’S TVCr llrtatr I 2 jfeUb L. o£ (XWl r j4’ X cL oorC coot evife cuziakrruc4' 46 XfotfafChUL yfyXWU, 7X AAjlJwz£a r e ioa nMpO onA OcruL 4 CtMe A l t 4 %. Ana tua vc ?4X FOR US IT’S The Castleberry School District had its beginning in the year 1898. It was a one-room frame building known as Marine School No. 3. In 1902, because of an increase in scholastics, another room was added to the one-room structure. This school, located where the present Castleberry Elementary now stands, was known as the Rosen Heights School No. 2 and served the community until the year 1919. To replace this two-room frame structure, a three-room red brick building was constructed on the one-ocre tract at a cost of $6,000. This building marked the real beginning of what was known as the Castleberry School since it was this structure that was named in honor of Uncle Zack and Aunt Fannie Castleberry who furnished water from their well for school use. In May, 1958 the first group of students became graduates of Castleberry High School. These first graduates posed a picture of enthusiosm, cooperation, school spirit and pride that has become a tradition at Castleberry. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of that tradition. It is with great pride that we look into our past and with great hope that we look to the future of Castleberry High School. 4 Fit Mmi inii tw We praise thee Alma Mater Living truth and knowledge. Patricio Hardy contributes an enormous amount ot her time to the stuaents and faculty whom she has taught and befriended over the past seventeen years. Coming into high school as a freshman and having such a great and interesting teacher as Ms. Hardy for World History is a neat and memorable experience. Ms. Hardy credits W.O. Barnes, former principal of CHS, as being the most influential figure in her teaching career. She patterns many of her standards and techniques after his. Ms. Hardy enjoys being a teacher. She believes success comes from dealing with her students and not necessarily through money or prestige. Feeling that she improves with time, she plans to teach as long as the Lord allows her to. She says her main goal in life is, “To become a better Christian, which is a constant task.” Through the years, Pat Hardy, has consistently delighted students with her stories and clever teaching methods. Each class tried to outdo the other in some way. When it truly count- ed, though, they all pulled together: the battle cry, the fight song, the alma mater. That is true spirit. It gets in my soul and it drives out the blues, And finally thrills through and through. It is just a sweet memory that chants the refrain: I'm glad I touch shoulders with you! Did you know you were brave, did you know you were strong? Did you know there was one leaning hard? Did you know that I waited and listened and prayed, And was cheered by your simplest word? Did you know that I longed for that smile on your face, For the sound of your voice ringing true? Did you know I grew stronger and better because I merely touched shoulders with you? I am glod that I live, that I battle and strive For the ploce that I know I must fill; I am thankful for sorrows, I'll meet with and grin What fortune may send, good or ill. I may not have wealth, I may not be great. But I know I shall always be true, For I have in my life that courage you gove When Once I rubbed shoulders with you. Author Unknown People 161 1. Our memories are shored with you. Others ore very personal. We thank you. 194 Owing Class of 1988 As seniors graduates, we want for you to have good memories. We — Jodi Sarber, LeAnna Biles, and Michele Miller — want to leave some thoughts from high school days and what is in the future. Each of us wrote on, either, the past, present or future for the class of ’88. When you look back and read this, we hope you can remember the special moments from C.H.S. THE PRESENT he things that we do in the present will affect us for the rest of our ves. Everyone knows that a parent’s favorite line is, Enjoy high chool while you can because things will never be the same. Well, for one, believe them. low is the time to enjoy spending time with your friends, who you lay never see again after this year. You have to make things appen sometimes and to make your Senior year the best you ossibly can. This is one of the most important things you can do. THE PAST v jr The past is memories. Memories of good times and bad. It is re- membering your first date, football games, falling in love, breaking up, getting back together, having fun with your friends, going out on Friday nights, the dances and especially the few special friends that you lose touch with over the years. j 4 It is remembering your being a Freshman and trying to find your classes on the first day. You remember those special teachers you had who didn’t make you feel like a kid. The past is remembering your Sophomore year. You remember trying to figure out chemistry and trying to get that special person to notice you. As you look back to your Junior year, you remember thinking I am almost out of here. It is remembering Physics and, for some of us, not having Mr. Fisher. Now that we are Seniors, you think Boy! Time flew by! Whatever you do with your life, please don’t forget THE FUTURE Our future is filled with many decisions and opportunities. After high school the graduates will be entering the real world. A world full of choices, experiences, and confusion. Some of us will leave our homes and some of our friends behind to foce a new life. Those going to college will best prepare themselves for their careers. Others will have to decide where they will go in the future. Most of us will experience the happiness of getting married, having children, pursuing careers, or reaching for our goals. Graduates, I hope that you will reoch all of your goals and that all of your dreams become a reality. I wish all of you good luck in whatever choices you make and whatever you do.
