P Places Second in Metro and Trojans Buzz Hornets On the muddy field of Aztec Bowl, Troy stopped the Lincoln Hornets with a score of 17-2. ln the first quarter the action was purely defensive with both teams holding fast. As the first quarter ended scoreless, second quarter action found Troy with the ball deep in their own territory. lapala was ready to punt when the snap from the center went over his head to give the Hornets a safety and two points. Towards the end of the second quarter C.P. started a drive down to the 11 yard line. Raul Caro then kicked a Z7 yard field goal to put the Trojans ahead at the half, 3-2. Neither team scored in the third quarter. Robert McCurdy went highstepping through the Lincoln defense for a total of 32 yards to score a TD. Raul Caro's kick was good and CP led 10-2. DeSaracho intercepted a Lincoln pass and ran it back 56 yards for a touchdown. Caro's kick was good, and the game closed with Castle Park 17, Lincoln 2. CP Loses in Comedy of Errors The Kearny-Castle Park game got off to a slow start, with both teams matching wits to a 0-0 tie at the end of the first quarter. Castle Park took over the second quarter at the 20 yard line, after lVlcCurdy was thrown for a three yard loss. Quarterback john Arana attempted a reverse to Keith Thompson who fumbled, Kearnyls Darling recovered it. This was the beginning of the fumbles which eventually lost the game for Castle Park. Four downs later Means, of Kearny, fumbled it to CP's DeSaracho, who recovered it at the Kearny 34 yard line. Castle Park drove down to the Kearny 12, only to have McCurdy fumble an Arana hand-off. The fumble filled second quarter ended a O-O tie. Kearny scored in the third quarter with a touchdown pass for six points. Following an exchange of fumbles and a CP punt, Kearny was on their own 31 yard line. Kearny scored again with a Norcross touchdown. The fourth quarter was scoreless. Castle Park lost to Kearny because of fumbles in a tragic comedy of errors, and so the 1973 Trojan football season was brought to a close. -f Mira l' BV Cost CP Metro With Tie The Barons had a moral victory as they tied Troy 6-6. The game got off to a quick start when Gomez received a 61 yard pass thrown by Romero for six points early in the first quarter. BV scored a touchdown in the second quarter with a three yard run by Coahran. The rest of the game was a stalemate, when neither team was able to score. The outcome of the CP-BV encounter cost Castle Park the Metro Championship, losing it by a tie, which counts for one-half of a game. Trojans Stab Lancers Hilltop had high hopes of defeating the Troians, but their ideas were put to rest as Troy scored a sound 24-6 defeat over the Lancers. Spirit was up, and the game got going as Gomez ran for a first quarter touchdown. The P.A.T. was made by Caro. The halftime score was 10-0, as Raul Caro kicked a field goal for three points.
