SPEEC By the end of the year the Speech Club will have attended over 20 speech tournaments. These include several civic contests sponsored by the Toastmasters Lion's Club, Northern California- Businessmen, etc. Some outstanding students include Charles Haynes who Won two Toastmaster's first place trophies. Debi Peddersen received second place lmproptu at San Diego State Forensics, also first Oratory and second extemporaneous at Monte Vista Forensics. Other championship finalists include: Joe Gallanosa, Joanne Sharp, and Carla Lupe. Outstanding speakers are Charles Haynes and Debi Peddersen who are CP's first two students to earn 250 National Forensic League points which in turn earned them the right to compete in the National Qualifying Contest. mlihere has been a great deal of camaraderie among our small groupfl states Mrs. Wells head of the speech department. ffliach member has put out a great deal of effortf, V Q fue 65 gjjff ..f- . ...,L A..V i we -:.Ma.MaiL A 4. 'Fhey were ahle to participate and excel in many productions, with the aid of the new drama building. Sweepstakes and the Best Drama trophies were awarded to them at the Scene Festival, and the Best Drama Trophy at the Une Act Festival. With Mrs. Mary Qualls as advisor, outstanding actors and actresses are: Paschal Greene and Sheila Agahan who both received the Best Actors-Drama and Certificates of Fxcellence at the Scenes Festival, and Elizabeth Verdugo and Lynita Shilling who received the Best Actors- Drama award at the District One Act Festival.
