OUR ATHLETIC OBJECTIVE Our magnificent new gymnasium, most recent gift to the school of the Bernarr Macfadden Foundation, affords opportunity for the various kinds of gymnastic activities as never before to our cadets. The result has been a tremendous increase in interest in every form of gym work. Tumbling, apparatus work of all kinds, rope climbing, weight lifting, badminton, volley ball, fencing, boxing, wrestling, and basketball are a few of the sports which make the gymnasium floor a busy place indeed. Half the cadets in school took part in the intramural basketball program alone, and practically every boy in the school has become interested in some kind of athletic exercise or sport. This is our objective rather than the development of strong athletic teams for a picked few. ir ON THE GYMNASIUM FLOOR Boxing is one ot the required exercises in our physical pro- gram as well as a minor sport in the athletic program. We believe every boy should know at least the fundamentals ot self-defense. Expert coaching is available to the boys who are interested in this strenuous sport and our school teams have been quite successful, even in difficult Golden Glove competition.

'hlfwv L,,, The popularity of fencing at the school is growing rapidly. One of the pio- neers in this sport among the schools of the South, our representative teams have been leaders in com- petition with other schools and colleges. Recently our fencers won the cup olfered by Dr. Sanborn of Vander- bilt University to the out- standing Southern teamg this year we were the run- ners-up. No exercise excels this for developing agility and coordination of brain and muscle.
