Panther fans swarmed onto the floor to congratulate Coach Gorman and his vic- torious charges. Panthers Pound Redlake 89 to 641 After an evenly played first half, which found Redlake trailing by only two points, 30 - 28, the Cass Lake Pan- thers broke loose after inter- mission and outscored the Warriors, 33 -23 in the third period and 26 - 13 in the final period to capture their sixth straight win of the season in the local gym last Friday ev- ening. Dave Ellis was back in form again as he scored 28 points to lead all scoring for the ev- ening followed by R a n d Smith with 20, Dale Vigen with 14 and Brad Erickson with 13. Willie Strong and Rex Strong led the Redlake War- riors attack with 17 points each. “We’re No. l!” screamed the Cass Lake fans in the final seconds of play against Park Rapids last night as Brad Erickson and mates surprised many cage followers by topping Park Rapids 85-61. The reason PR had been favored was the 107-59 victory over Walker after Walker had ended Cass Lake's win streak at 68-67. Cass Lake will get another shot at Walker Feb. 17 on the Panthers’ home court. Jim Gorman’s charges really put the press on Park Rapids and their fast breaking style of play several times found the Cass Lake player going in to score with no PR player within five steps. The fact that Cass Lake has beaten Bemidji and Park Rapids may get it the No. 1 seeded spot on the district 29 tourney here in March. Bemidji, in the past, has had this honor, but if Cass Lake wins the return match with Walker and takes Pemer in the final home game they deserve the honor. While I am pulling for our Lumberjacks to take the district, right now I’d have to rate Cass Lake a slight favorite. Playing the way they did last night, the Panthers should win the rest of their games to finish 17-1. I'd pick Cass Lake over Karlstad, who beat our 'Jacks here a few weeks ago. Karlstad pushed East Grand Forks — the Region Eight favorite — before losing last night 60-56. Cass Lake High School’s Jim Gorman was featured on WCCO Radio Thursday night, December 18th when he was chosen Coach of the Week for his fine coaching of Cass Lake’s basketball team. CLHSGrapplers Bested Remer By 32-14 Tally The Cass Lake High School Panther Wrestlers got back in the win column by defeat- ing Remer 32-14 in a meet held at Remer last Tuesday night, December 9th. Panthers Beat Kelliher 75 - 56 In Conference Tilt The Cass Lake Panthers continued their win streak last Friday night by defeating Kelliher 75-56.
