We were led by President Jim Knoblet; Vice-president Ed Retherford; Secretary Betsy Jones; and Treasurer Bob Jones. Our sponsors that year were Mr. Hauck and Mr. Claseman. The Summer vacation went by all too quickly and soon we returned in the fall as Sophomores. For our class leaders we chose President Larry Seale; Vice-president Betty Kennedy; Secretary Barb Beecher; and Treasurer Bob Jones. Our sponsors were Mr. Lindley and Mr. Raulin. We continued to work hard to earn money for the senior trip we were all looking so forward to. Our Junior year came and went all to quickly. Our President that year was Jeri Ryan; Vice-president Barb Bustamante; Secretary Linda Freiburger; and Treasurer Rick Bringardner. We received the most help from Mr. Cardew and Mr. Doerr. This year we worked at selling magazines and other ways to earn money. We were a busy class working on the Junior Play and then the Prom came. But soon our Junior Year was over. Our Senior year has now drawn to a close. Our class officers this year were busy President Bev Guinther; Vice-president Barb Bustamante; Secretary Carol Lapp; and Treasurer Arlene Kilbourn. Our Student Council was led by Ed Retherford. Our class sponsors were Mr. Sherman and Mrs. Wallace who gave us alot of their time and effort. As the year passed it finally came time to go on The Senior Trip that every one was looking forward to for the last four years. This year to really make it something special, we went to the New York World's Fair and stayed at the Hotel New Yorker. We left Cass City at 5:00 A.M. to go to the airport in Detroit where we boarded a plane that took us to Kennedy Airport in New York. Those were the busiest next three days of our lives, and 1 doubt if any of us will ever forget them. Well all to quickly came Baccalaureate and the night we have waited for a long time, Commencement. The halls are now silent as the last Senior leaves, but the hardest of all are the goodbyes to all our friends. We, the class of 1965, leave a little sorrowfully and regretfully, but we will all remember the wonderful times we have had at Cass City High School. BACCALAUREATE SERVICE Processional March . . . . The gates of the International World's Fair have just opened in the booming metropolis of Cass City, Michigan. The class of 1965 have a class reunion scheduled in the gym of the new Cass City High School. Many of our friends have gone many separate ways. To our amazement we, Linda Freiburger and Arlene Kilbourn, found that some have sequred some very high positions. As we walked to the main entrance of the fairgrounds it was learned that the President of the United States, Ed Retherford and his Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare -Barbara Bustamante- had just dedicated the new Community College. We met Ed and Barb inside the gates and they informed us that Robert Milligan the Secretary of Agriculture, and Dave Marshall his right-hand man were due on flight 113 at 3:00. The four of us decided to meet Bob and Dave at Kennedy Airport, named in dedication of the great life-saver in medicine. Miss Betty Kennedy. Betty is known for her many great feats performed in the medical profession. As we were admiring the beautiful plane that landed at the airport, the doors opened and the passengers filed out. We were told that it was designed and constructed under Richard Bringardner. Rick has worked himself up from a General Motors tech- nician. Rick told us that he was honored to have his plane used for transporting the dignitaries of the government. As we were talking, the pilot, Melvin Laming, came out to greet us. Naturally, knowing Mel, the stewardesses were exceptionally pretty. It turned out that they were intercontinental Carol Lapp, Janet LaRoche, and Carol Turner. It was a delightful experience going over old times” with these girls! All of us decided to tour the fair together just as we had on our Senior trip in 1965. Carol Turner and DaveMarshall regretted that they had previous plans. Bob told us that he had more than just one reason for returning to Cass City. It seems that he has a huge dairy farm just north of Cass City that Bob Carpenter supervises. Bob invited us to visit the dairy exhibit with him. At the exhibit we saw James Rosenstangel, Don Ball, George Kloc, Ken Ball, and Mark Battle. All of these classmates of ours are very successful. Arlene was told that Bob Bliss, who hauls all the milk produced by our classmates' farms, has also become very successful. Bob is taking over his father's business and is forming many branches from it. It was now 12:00 and we all decided to go to the hotel to freshen up for lunch. As we gave our order we noticed that the manager of the hotel restaurant was iolet Sattleburg. The hotel has added many buildings. It is now taking up a whole block. We were enjoying a delicious meal in the Red Room when a beautiful voice drifted across the room. It was Rosemary Deering, singing Red Sails in the Sunset. Rosemary spotted us and joined us at the table. She told us that we had just missed the dedication of a statue in Cass City Central Park. It was sculptured by the famous Jeri Ryan. The statue is a ten-foot bronze toad with a six-foot moat enclosing it. it was getting late and so we excused ourselves and proceeded to the fair grounds. Arlene suggested seeing the Clairol Building first, since she ow-ns a plush salon in New York City. As we approached the building we saw Diane Ball and Elgene Greenlee combing different hairstyles on the volunteering tourists. When we entered the building we saw winning hair-style designs by Shirley root and Sue Mark, pictured on the walls. As we walked down the corridor we met Jo Nell Miller. Jo Nell told us that she owns her own shop here in Cass City and has Jeanne Jones, Barb Geister, and Barb Beecher working for her. We reminisced for awhile and then decided to move on into the fair after touring the building. The I.B.M. building was next on the agenda. As we entered the building we saw Phil Decker directing the exhibit. He suggested that we see the Ford and G.M. exhibits on our jaunt through the fair. Phil is President of I.B.M. Since the Ford building was closer we decided to go there first. We were delighted to see that the transportation through the exhibit was in a 1975 Ford convertible Space Mobile. At the end of the ride we were able to see the Vice- President of Ford Motor Company-Alien Venema greeting all of the spectators. Russ Parrish who was in charge of the whole exhibit was with Allen. Russ has worked himself up from a factory laborer to a top executive in charge of Ford employment and business. After talking, we excused ourselves for rushing and proceeded to the American Medical and Scientific Research Building. Here we found that many of our classmates chose some field of medicine as their life's occupation. Sue VanVliet and Joyce Irrer were sitting behind big desks in the lobby. We found out they were secretaries to Ruth Freeman and Jean Meredith, who are leading surgeons in the Nation. We were asked to tour the building by Elaine Englehart, who was head nurse in the building. Since everyone needs a hospital and with everyone getting sick at the fair the Medical Society formed an exhibit and hospital into one building. Elaine took us to the Lab. In there we found Dale Horak, Sandy Fleming, and Sue Greenleaf testing and retesting many virus. Sue is the one who found the sure cure for the common cold. As we walked into the hall we saw Charlene Lapeer wheeling Ken Crawford down the hall. Ken is in charge of a new clover-lead construction on M-53. He was injured on the job. From here we went to the pharmacy part of the hospital. Here we saw Chris McCullough as the head Pharmacist. The U.N. building was next. We were pleased to see Reiner Jack, our foreign exchange student of our senior year, as the President of the United States of Europe. We met Jim Knoblet as the Ambassador to the U.S.S.R. Jim is responsible for the cooling of the heated feelings of animosity between the Communists and the free countries. The Conservation building was next on our list because we wanted to see Jane Ballard who was head of the Board of Conservation. Under Jane we found Jack Burns and John Mulrath acting as right-hand men. Jack and John have recently accepted governmental posts in the conservation field. By this time we were all tired and we had only seen a few exhibits. We decided to go to the G.M. building and then go to the Hotel for dinner. At G.M. we saw John Wright, John Matuszak, and Gary Guilds as employees of the Corporation. As we toured the building we saw the complicated process of building a car. We saw that Jerry Sugden was responsible for the construction of the body frames. Peggy Sawicki did the decorating and designing of the interior. Next the construction of the auto, led by Ralph Zinnecker and Paul Rockwell was illustrated. Next we toured the durancy run scale models. Rick Hughes was operating the models and he told us that he was the one who test drove all the new cars. Bob Milligan, Ed and Rick stayed to talk with Rick while Janet, Carol, Arleen and I returned to the Hotel. Arlene and I decided to eat at a different restaurant tonight. As we went into our choice for tonight we were met by Kay Cook, who had married the well- to-do son of Howard Johnson. Sitting across the room was Judy Bohnsack and her husband. They were joined by Joy Turner and her husband. We rushed through dinner in order to get to the Class Reunion at 7:30. When we arrived at the school we were met by Beverly Guinther, who is in charge of the reunion. Bev teaches Kindergarten at the Northern branch of Cass City's Elementary School. She told Arlene that many classmates had grown so attached to Cass City Schools that they had chosen to teach here. Esther Gray and Charlotte Lapeer are in the Elementary building with Bev. Linda McConkey is teaching the Junior High Home Economics couse. Bonnie Butler is teaching biology. Jon Avery is head of the band. Ann Sheppard is in charge of the Special Education program. Dave McNaughton is teaching Junior High Science. Ruth Ann Severance is in charge of the Social Studies division. Gary Tracy is teaching Chemistry. Ernest Bouck has come back to Cass City to teach history. Shirley Brown, Central Michigan's ex-Homecoming Queen, is teaching English 12. Arlene O'Dell is teaching Physical Education. She is responsible for the reinstalling of that program. Larry Seale is the new Assistant Principal. Now that the four of us found the school situation was in good hands we entered the main meeting room. As the meeting progressed Ed Retherford announced that Marion Linderman, Lynn Searls, and Arlene Peasley would not be joining us. Marion is a missionary in Africa; Lynn is a social worker in Louisiana; and Arlene is in charge of Religious training on an island in the Pacific. The class decided to send some money to these girls for the fine work that they were doing. A letter was read to us from Bob Spencer. He sent his deepest regret that he could not leave the Pentagon for our reunion. His position as a top-notch physicist is a little difficult to replace even for a week. Francis DeLong sent the class an invitation for a two week vacation on his ranch in Texas. Larry Seale began making plans right away. An invitation to the California surf was read as coming from Larry Shagena, who had just left Michigan to enter a surf marathon out there. Carol Lapp perked up at this. A list of our boys abroad was read. Roger Ashmore, Gary Spencer, and John 1 app were stationed in Hawaii in the Navy. Cas Pasieczny is a General in the Army and is operating in Paris, France. Eugene Izydorek, who flys the new super-sonic jets is circling around the region of Italy. Ilia Babich is in the women's branch of the Air Force. Ilia sure knows were the boys are! Some slides were shown next of the Champion Estate, the great showplace of Cass City. The Estate is the home of the known millionaire Jim Champion. Jim announced that the class would be a part of a special tour at 9:30 tomorrow morning as his guests. Larry Groombridge and Les Nicholas then showed some film strips of their factories. They are now owners of some very large corporations. Mary Zelkowski, Rosemary Rutkoski, and Charlene Derengowski then showed slides of their deluxe Fashion Inlet. They told us that the Austin sisters, Joyce and Norma were their Paris correspondents. Joyce and Norma were in Paris right now. Greg Thompson jumped up and announced that he would connect all our separated class mates on one commuter tomorrow at the General Telephone and Telegraph pavilion at 2:00. Greg is President of G.T. T. Garry Fleenor announced that he had several cars exhibited at the Future Cars of America pavilion. Garry is an expert welder of long ago and has designed and built many different forms of cars. The only way to get a car you like is to build it yourself says Garry. Many of his ideas have been sold to G.M. and Ford. Jerry Krohn, John Mika, and Gerald Guinther announced their merger of their engineering companies. Steve Auvil, a chemical engineer, announced that we should all go to see his latest discoveries at the DuPont building at the fair. Pat Herhalt announced that he was President of one of the large travel bureaus, Karen Bond is working as his Secretary. Judy Weippert, governor of Michigan, announced that she was a candidate for President of the United States. Everyone wished her good luck, even Ed Retherford, who was running for another term. Everyone has enjoyed themselves today. We've laughed, cried, and reminisced for almost three hours and it is getting late. We still have two more days to tour the fair so maybe we'll see our friends again. It will be another long ten years before we all get together again. So Arlene and I must leave. We are due on the next flight to New York. She must return to her salon and I must return to my studios in New York. I am a fashion designer for Bobbie Brooks. So until the next reunion this is Arlene and Linda saying good-by and good-luck.
