i-. Foreword In the years to come, we the Annual Staff of 1964 hope that this year's Perannos will recall the many moments, and feelings of happiness that you have had at Cass City High School. THE STAFF 2 Our 1964 yearbook is published in memory of the 35th President of the United States. John Fitzgerald Kennedy As a token of our appreciation we the senior class of 1964 are very happy to dedicate this year's annual to superintendent, Mr. Willis Campbell, for his 43 years of time, devotion and effort that he has given to Cass City High School. He has been a friend to all of us and many before us. We wish you the very best of luck in the future. 4 BOARD OF EDUCATION Seated, L. to R.: James Milligan, Mrs. Gerald Prieskorn, Horace Bulen, Donald Reid. CLASS HISTORY It was the first part of September that we entered the High School gym to begin the best four years of our life. We were led that year by President John Herhalt; Vice-president John Hunter; Secretary Bill Eberline; Treasurer Martin Yedinak. Our sponsors that year were Mr. Hauck and Mr. Claseman. Summer vacation went by all too quickly and soon we returned in the fall as Sophomores. For our class leaders we chose president Bill Eberline; Vice-President David Parrott; Secretary Bob Hutchinson; Treasurer Wally Hempton; our sponsors were Mr. Strickland and Mr. Mance. We continued to work hard to earn money for the senior trip we were all looking so forward to. Our Junior year came and went all to quickly. Our president that year was Bob Hutchinson; Vice- President Dee Ellen Albee; Secretary Dale McIntosh; Treasurer Pam Dillon. The two people that helped us the most were Mr. Cardew and Mrs. Lemanski. This year we all worked at selling magazines and other ways to earn money. We were a busy class working on the Junior Play and then the Prom came. But soon our Junior Year was over. Our Senior year has now drawn to a close. Our class officers this year were busy President Sally Edzik; Vice President John Herhalt; Secretary Lorrie James; Treasurer Judy Quick. Our Student Council was led by Fred Reid. Our class sponsors were Mr. Shermann and Mr. Stickle who gave us a lot of their time and effort. Our Senior Play the ’’Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” was warmly received and all the hard work proved to be good profits. Then finally came the thing we all looked forward to all four years of high school. The Senior Trip . This year to really make it something special we went to the New York Worlds Fair and stayed at the Hotel New Yorker. We left our town at 4:30 A.M. to go to the airport where we boarded a plane which took us to New York. Those were the busiest next three days of our lives, and I doubt if any of us will ever forget them. Well all to quickly came Swing-out, the Baccalaureate and the night we waited for, Commencement. The halls are now silent as the last Senior leaves, but the hardest of all are the goodbyes to all our friends. We, the class of 1964, leave a little sorrowfully and regretfully, but we will all remember the wonderful times we have had at Cass City High School. 31 THE CLASS OF 1964 ♦Dee Ellen Albee ♦Maryanne Barriger Keith Earl Beecher Gordon D. Meet RED HAWKS ARE REGIONAL CHAMPIONS FOR 1964 Hawks Surprise Champions at Regional • 7 A brilliant individual ef- fort by Walter Hempton, Cass City's athlete of the year, in the Class B Regional track meet sparked the Hawks to an upset victory Saturday at Cass City Recreational Park. The versatile Hempton won both hurdle events and the high jump as Cass City won 35 points to edge runner-up Bad Axe by two points. Others in the order of finish were: Saginaw Buena Vista and Vassar, 31 each; Marlette, 20; Caro, 15; San- dusky, 12; Croswell- Lexington, 6; Carrollton, 5; North Branch, 2, and Saginaw SS Peter and Paul, 2. Thumb B Conference teams did well in the region- als. Friday, Frankenmuth walked off with top honors in the C meet with 25 points, to narrowly nip Akron- Fairgrove by a single point. Unionville won its seventh straight regional in Class D by running away from the field with 44 1 2 points to second place Arenac-Eastern's 26 points. Cass City qualified five men for the State finals Sat- urday. Competing will be Larry Groombridge, Hemp- ton, Dale McIntosh, Cass Pascieczny and Ed Rether- ford. Besides the 15 points won by Hempton, the Hawks picked up points in the following e- vents: Pascieczny finished second in the mile run; Groombridge was first in the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet, 10 inches; Retherford was third in the 880-yard run, and the Hawks finished second in the mile run. Much credit is due to the members of the Gavel Club for their unfailing sup- port of athletics at Cass City. Above picture shows Walter Hempton during the Gavel Club meet. At the right is a picture of Mike Karr in the same meet. The above picture shows Mr. Wm. Ruhl, Mr. Arlan Hartwick and Coach Oarie Lemanski getting some of the equipment ready for the track season.
