As our Student Council President for 1962-'63, Jim Fritz, looks into the crystal ball he sees that this year's Senior Class has been very prominent during their four years here at Cass City High. He sees that in their Freshman year Kathy Van Vliet, President; Dick Reid, Vice President; Joanne Miljure,Secretary and Jerry Ross,Treasurer; lead the class under the supervision of Mr. Gilcrest and Mr. Weatherhead, class sponsors. As money raising projects which would eventually sponsor their Senior trip, the class sold pins, and held In their Sophomore year they were under the leadership of Joanne Miljure, President; Roger Karr, Vice President; Jim Fritz, Secretary; and Ed Knight, Treasurer. This year was the beginning of the most extensive money raising projects..Stationery and pens were sold by each student for the class, also several dances were held, under the supervision of Mr. Mance and Mr. Strickland class sponsors. In their Junior year they were lead in their activities by Jim Fritz, President; Chuck Seeley, Vice President, Suzanne Barnes, Secretary; and Mary Lou Jones, Treasurer. These people and the other members of the class put forth a great effort on the two main high- lights of the year, the Junior Play and the Junior Prom (ON THE ROAD TO MANDALAY). Without the success of the Junior magazine sales, they would have been unable to put these projects on. Also this year they put in enough work to be able to win first prize with their float in the Homecoming. Without the great effort put forth by their class sponsors Miss Maninno and Mr. Cardew, the class never would have been blessed with the success that they have had with their activities. Last of all and the greatest of all is their Senior year with the leadership of Joanne Miljure, President; Amelie Claus, Vice President; Cheryl Sheffer, Secretary; and Mary Lou Jones, Treasurer. This year the activities were centered mostly around the graduation events, such as the Senior trip, Swing-Out, and Baccalaureate and the Commencement exercises. The money raising projects were candy sales, mums and dances. The class decided that they would like to go to Chicago and on a boat cruise, with their sponsors Mr. Scherzer and Mr. Stickle. And as the crystal ball begins to become dim, Jim sees that this is not an ending but just the beginning of a bright and happy future for each member of the Senior Class of 1962-'63. dances. 32 Swinyoul 1963 Picture above shows students returning from their march downtown. CL , Pr„pL 7pnecy It is now 1973 and ten years have passed since we left Cass City High School, when each parted and went his separate way. Cherylann Sheffer, Ginny Gross, Karen Pelton and I, Jane Mac Lachlan decided to leave our worries on the Earth and make the ’’Grand Tour of the Universe. We found it necessary to consult a travel agency before embarking on our expedition. On arriving at the travel agency in Detroit we were surprised to see Duncan Ferguson seated behind the travel agent’s desk. After receiving our itinerary published by the Hosner Printing Company, we phoned for a P.W. Jones Jet-A-Way Car. Setting our car on frequency-2, we darted into town and spent the afternoon shopping for things for our trip. We started at Hahn's Ladies Apparel. We were surprised to see Joyce Baily as we stepped inside the door. She had just sold a mink stole to the famous Nancy Dearing, who was singing at the Metrople. Joyce gladly showed us their fine collection of Space Suits by Sbresny. We each chose the latest space creations popular throughout the Universe. While walking back to the car we smelled the aroma of food coming from Toner's Coffee Shop. Recognizing the name, we decided to have a snack before continuing on our way. Ivernia gladly served us a delicious meal! We took our Jet-A-Way Car with faithful driver Dave Allen to our launching pad at Cape Canaveral. While on our way there we relaxed and were confident that Dave would safely de- liver us within a few minutes to our destination. In twenty minutes we arrived at the Cape. Discovering that our rocket was going to be delayed because of a faulty radar computer system, we decided to tour the pad. First we went to the ticket office and to our surprise we met Gary Randall, Ted Marshall, and Joan Skripy in the office arranging the flights. After a long conversation with our former classmates we decided to return to see if our rocket had been repaired. Once back we dis- covered that the chief engineers repairing our rocket were Brewster Shaw, Steve Karpovich and Bob Harmon. As we entered our rocket we were greeted by the head stewardess Carolyn Phelps. When introduced to our pilot we were shocked to see Norris Walters as head pilot accompanied by co-pilot, Norman Sawicki. As we fastened our seat belts we glanced out our window to see the great photographer, Bob Freiburger taking a picture as the liquid oxygen was ignited. Then, as we held our stomachs, we were off. Once into orbit we settled down in our seat and opened our eyes. As we glanced around we noticed many familiar faces. Seated in front of us were Carol and Roger Karr, who were on their first teaching assignment on the planet Mars. Further looking revealed other former classmates of 63,” among them were John Bohnsack, Mike Bryant, Marilyn Brown and Larry Hughes. We learned each had their special duties to perform in the line of educating the strange creatures on the various planets, and teaching them our way of life on Earth. Soon we were informed that our first stop would be at the planet Mars. Here we sadly said good bye, or as the Martians say, B-Bop-Ba-Loop-Ah, to Carol and Roger. Our sorrow was soon quelled when we recognized the new passengers coming up the gantry. To our astonishment they were Suzanne Barnes, famed throughout the world as the Great White Healer, James Cybulski, the champion rocket racer, and Veronica Rutkoski, who was called to nurse a patient who became air sick during the flight. We then took off for the planet Jupiter, and as we took our final look at Mars we could see Senior Scout Master Bill Hutchinson and his scout troop Tom Kostanko, Bill Knowlton, Alvin Mozden and Gerald Behr, plus a few Martians trailing behind. On arriving at Jupiter, we left the rocket and went into the nearest hotel. Knowing our luggage would be coming soon we whistled f r a bellboy to take it to our room. As we signed the register we noticed many familiar names. Included among them were Chesterine Kloc, John McIntosh, Anna Leffer, and Connie Miller. We later learned they were on a mission for the United Universe. As we started for our rooms, we met the manager coming down the stairs. This was Carl Lounsbury. Carl then invited us to his Cocktail Party that evening at the Hotel. We went to our rooms to prepare for the big evening. We decided we would like a new Jupiter hair style for the party, and to our surprise our hairdresser was none other than the famous and outstanding Karen Powell. We were now ready for our big evening. When we entered the Ball Room we learned this was to be a convention for the Political Personalities of neighboring planets. There were many guests whom we recognized as our former classmates. James Fritz, with his private secretary, Joanne Miljure was campaigning for presidency on Mars. Jerry Ross and Dick Reid were com- peting for the office of cleaning the observatory windows. Roger Bouck, with secretary, Vernita Partaka were contemplating whether there should be a new office for crater surveyors. Russell Barriger, Doug Britt, Paul Izydorek and Jim Merchant were forming a committee for research on the vitamin content of a new plant grown abundantly on this planet, the Jupiter Fly Trap. Suddenly Dave Ashmore, special messenger, rushed up to us with word from back home that the worst robbery ever to take place on the Earth had just taken place at Fort Knox. The Bennett twins, Garold and Gary, presidents of the bank at Fort Knox, are extremely disturbed about this fantastic robbery. Although the criminals seem to have completely vanished, the famed F.B.I. agents Dean and Dennis Rienstra are now following some very promising leads. Fearing we will go bankrupt, we made a hasty departure and once more got on our rocket to return to Earth. The pilots on the trip home are also former classmates, Bernard Pine and Bob Rockwell. Our stewardess is Mary Patterson who is surprised to hear about the robbery. The trip back seemed very tiring since we were anxious to see the familiar sights of Earth again. Mary told us that Gary Kelly is being honored for having the world’s largest greenhouse with branches in each of the fifty states and four foreign countries. We heard that Duane Sangster is head of the Arizona branch and also Amalie Claus, our exchange student during our senior year, is head of the Swedish branch. Finally we land and are off the rocket only to meet Carole and Buzz Seeley leaving on their honeymoon to the planet Venus. We congratulate them and leave immediately to cash in our bonds. Working in the bank as cashiers are Wanda Brown, Darlene Brady, and Sandra Shagena. They direct us to the Chief Clerk’s Office since they know we would like to see him again. This was Don Bullock. He assured us our bonds were still safe and not to worry. So we left with confidence that all was well. In our anxiety to return home we were involved in an accident. A low flying Strato-Jet, driven by Gordon Mitchell made a wrong turn necessitating hospital care for us. Orderly Mike Holik admitted us and we were taken immediately to the emergency room. While there, Charlene MacRae, Mary Hughes and Kathy Van Vliet. nurses at the hospital gave us excellent care. On our last day at the hospital we were well enough to tour the hospital. On visiting the new Psychology clinic we were greeted by Kaihi Ballard, the head psychiatrist. She gave us the information that Sherry Law had received the great honor of being elected most outstanding teacher of the year and that Mary Lou Jones had received the Nobel Prize for discovering a new miracle drug. As we were leaving the hospital we saw the gardener Alfred Whittaker tending to the beautiful landscaped grounds. Due to the fact that our Jet- A-Wav Car was broken down we wen? directly to Rockwell’s Motor Sales. Dave Gabler sold us an automobile after which Ron came and thanked us for buying our car from him. Settled once again we tuned in our car TV only to hear the familiar voice of Bill Dobbs. He had lust finished composing a brilliant musical masterpiece. As we changed channels we tuned in a uiz Pregram with Ed Knight as MX. and sealed am the panel were Kay Decker, Sandra Retherford and Linda Severance as special guests.. As w e continued on our way home we crossed the state line into G-eorgia and noticed a beautiful large ranch. We stopped to look around and found the owner to be oar friend Bill Miller. Bill was on his wax’ to Atlanta to the Stock Market and asked as to ride along. During the drive. Bill pointed out a billboard adverti sm cut painted by the famous Pal Kostanfco. As-we looked closer we found out it was the well known all-state track personality, Roger Enter, advertising for the ’W cippen Pastry Company. Once in Atlanta, Bill went to the stock market and we told him -we would do some shopping and meet him for lunch at 1 o’clock. We noticed a department store and decided to look around there first. When we went in we noticed Jane Lasko, Janet Hurd, Linda Goodall and Barbara Pasieczny as clerks. After a long conversation with our friends we decided we would have to hurry to meet Bill on time. Later, when we met Bill, he told us that we would go to the Mark’s Place, where we recognized Kay as our hostess. As we were eating we noticed two more classmates, Ruthann Willis and Virginia Herr, who are now personal secretaries. After finishing a delicious meal we returned to Bill’s ranch, where we thanked him for a wonderful day. Once more we got into our Jet-A-Way Car and headed for home. We had one final stop to make. This was in Kentucky, where we knew Marlene Ulfig and Lorraine Mika were living. After a long conversation with Marlene and Lorraine, in which we learned that the former Joanne Zawlinski, now Mrs. Smithson, had been to visit them the week before. We then left for home. We now headed for Cass City. Once in Cass City we went to see our old school house and look up a few more friends. We saw Mrs. Jean Behr with her twin daughters, Mrs. Ardis Loomis, who is expecting her third child, and Mrs. Marcia Schembers, who was voted as Mother of the Year. Being very tired from our trip we spent our last evening together discussing our Grand Tour of the Universe. In the morning we will part once again each going our separate ways. I will go back to Detroit with Karen where I am a Registered Nurse at Henry Ford Hospital and Karen is a High Fashioned Hair Stylist. Cherylann will be returning to her home in California and Ginny will return to her nursing position at Hurly Hospital in Flint. With tears in our eyes we say good-night, only hoping we can once more be reunited with our friends. 39 B. Copeland B. Guinther C. Turner C. Wallace A. Kilbourn J. Lasko L. McConkey B. Rockwell D.
